Hello Friends,
That was the longest weekend in my life. You know, we had two national holidays (last Tuesday and Thursday), classes at the university were cancelled for the remaining Monday, Wednesday and Friday so basically we had 9 days off.

Well, yesterday and today I was teaching at the fieldtrip for the students of nature conservation. We visited some nature reserves yesterday and one national park today. Unfortunately the weather turned bad this morning and we had 15km walk along a mountain ridge in mist and rain. I came back home in the evening, completely wet with shoes and trousers covered in clay...
But it was worth it I believe...
Mountain forest in the mist is something that everyone should see - so mysterious and dark. I had to share with you this image...

The picture was taken on the Lysica ridge in the middle of the Swietokrzyski National Park.
It is a national park in mid-Poland, covering the highest ridge of the Góry Świętokrzyskie (Holy Cross Mountains) - the Lysogory, with two highest peaks - Lysica (612 meters above sea level) and a Lysa Gora (595 meters above sea level). The mountains are not high as you may see but they are the oldest ones in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe, formed during Hercynian orogeny, some 300 milions years ago. For that age, they are simply eroded (especially during the ice ages).

The name Holy Cross Mountains comes from the old Benedictine monastery which is placed on the Lysa Gora, where a part from Jesus' Cross was supposedly enshrined, and has been a site of frequent pilgrimages.

The Park is famous for its trees, of which 674 are regarded as monuments of nature and as such are under protection. Park’s authorities successfully managed to reintroduce yew trees (Taxus baccata) here - now there are around 1300 of them. Most of Park’s area is forested, mainly with pines (Pinus sylvestris) and beeches (Fagus sylvatica). Fir (Abies alba) trees are less numerous as well as forests of mixed oak-fir character.

Here you can sea a fir-beech forest growing in the highest parts of the ridge.

Hi Michal

I remember how it feels...i've had a few of those myself :))
But honestly, the first time it's interesting, but the second or third...it's one of those "ohhh...not again!!!" moments :))
Anyway, the landscape shot you managed here is very moody and really presents the atmosphere accurately.
The dark tones and colors and the mist are really terrific to create one of those "mystical" and maybe even "horror" movies feeling ;))
Great job!

Bravo and TFS
horia

PS: don't get me wrong, i like this one too, but i hope we'll be seeing something more vivid too from your trip :)

Hello Michal,
Amazing atmosphere here. Did you deliberately underexpose? Composition is superb, and all those trees with the different shades of color look great. Very well done. Regards,
Hakan

Hi Michal,
in the first time I though your photo is too dark, but when I saw the detail, it really catch the atmosphere there,I really seems an eerie misty forest there, nice and artistic composition from shading effect of tree and branches, TFS

Lovely shot - It remainds me of a scene from House of Flying daggers.

Hello Michal,
I love this mood and your interesting notes :) This picture looks like a scene taken from a horror movie. Did some of your student have disappeared mysteriously in the wood? :) Or maybe have you seen a werewolf?

You managed well with exposure and this fog creates a creepy atmosphere. I also like this soft touch of color on the ground. This is very well done and TFS your agreeable experience :-)

Hello Cedryk,
The darkness and damp makes me really shiver! It looks a bit like a scene from a beech forest here on a gloomy day! Excellent capture
of the atmosphere you experienced. As an "arty" photograpy I would have preferred it a bit lighter down the centre but not as light as in the workshop.
Many thanks, Ulla

Hello Michal,
the forest looks really dense, spooky with all the mist and darkness.
You captured the mood very well, what I like a lot is even though the darkeness is present the greeens of the leafs stand out so well.
I like this shot a lot.

Hi Michal.
You managed to create a very expressive shot of foggy forest. You have reflected the atmosphere of the rainy weather and feelings of this situation perfectly. It is very interesting the colour palette is not poor. Ground cover and tree branches are coloured very well. Refined art work. My compliments.
Alexei.

Waiting for Robin Hood!

Uwielbiam takie klimaty. Najbardziej lubie spacerowac po lasach/parkach w czasie deszczu. Pieknie uchwyciles mroczna strone lasu. Bardzo podoba mi sie kompozycja z pionowymi pniami i poziomymi galazkami. Fantastyczne miejsce, dobrze ze znalazles sie tam z aparatem.

Hi Michal,
This image has an eerie mood, and makes me want to look behind me every now and then. Very dramatic effect. :)

Hi Michal,
I love the dark mood you captured in this wonderful photo. The fog has created a kind of mystical feel. The dark pillars of threes with the hint of fresh green colors have made this photo awesome. Your composition with the two trees in the FG has created a perfect depth.
TFS,
Niek
