Kilclooney Dolmen, Co. Donegal

This is one of Ireland's most spectacular dolmens in Co Donegal. Since it is not well-known, a visit to the Kilclooney dolmen is very peaceful and without the annoyance of the tour bus crowds that sometimes detract from visits to the more famous megalithic sites around the Ireland like the Burren. I took many shots of this magnificent Dolmen from various angles with different lens and each looks quite different.

You will also see a short distance west of this tomb is another similar construction but on a very much smaller scale. It is now partly collapsed. A modern field wall separates the two, which were evidently mounded over by the same east-facing cairn, traces of which remain.

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS3
Exposure Time: 1/15
F-Stop: f/5.0
ISO Speed Ratings: 100
Focal Length: 10/1 mm

God Stephen, I think i 'm getting addicted to ur photographs...This is so amazing....i get the feeling that my favorites section is going to be filled up with the shots u do.

Brilliant composition....what a DoF....they just have some kind of real tugging effect inside!!!

Hi Stephen,
Good compo due to your wide angle trademark...
Well done agaian.

Wow Stephen, what a magnificent image. The sky looks just fabulous, beautiful colours. One wonders how that rock balances there. I'm so impressed with the quality it is superb.

I guess that it would be hard to give some useful comments on this. It's a true masterpiece, made by the master of HDR processing.
Thanks for sharing.

Striking image with beautiful colours and just about perfect exposure. Well done.

Hola Stephen.
Magníficos los efectos que producen las nubes que has captado rompiendo el limpio cielo y que parecen surgir de detrás del dolmen.
Un saludo y tfs, JL.

Hello Stephan !

Really a wonderful pîcture, the colors and the contrast is really good.
I'm gonna take it in my favorite ^^ TFS

Hi Stephen,
You could almost say that this isn't strictly a 'nature' shot in that it is a man made feature, but it's still a magnificent landscape, and so well captured.
The composition is awesome once again.
Great work.

This is a wonderful shot of the dolmen (dolman?). Even though I've seen your other great shots of this before, you've done another wonderful job. What stands out for me is the soft quality of the light and the sky. The 10mm works well for this. So I hope this means you'll be posting some of the others. (I think a series in the same location, with differt light, angles, lenses, etc. would be a wonderful photoessay.

Hello Stephen!
Another great picture! Lovely colours, POV and DoF. This is really very climatic photo!
TFS and have a nice evening,

Hello Stephen,
Another one of your amazing scenes. Love the way the clouds shoot out from behind this rock formation. Beautiful colors in both the grasses and sky. I love your photos. TFS

Thanks for your critique on my recent odonata picture, Stephen.

Very impressive view of this dolmen with your wide-angle lens. What a fantastic presentation against a very eloquent sky!

Thanks and best regards.

Excellent composition Stephen. I like the dynamic use of POV and Bg.Soft pastel tones with very well managed light and framing gives the great results.TFS

This a a very dramatic image created by the lens exaggerating the composition; the wonderful light; the intensity of color; the sharpness, and great depth of focus.

Hi Steve

I just can't see anyone who would think that these shots are fantastic! All of your Dolmen photos are simply outstanding and you did great to take so many!

Again a phenomenal game of lights and colors, with a terrific wide-angle feel and charming composition to it.
Superb work!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Stephen.
Very dramatic. That sky really makes this image. great low POV and beautiful ligh as is always a feature of your images. Well done.
Regards, Steve.

Hi Steve,
The sky in this photo is really awesome. I like the fact that you used the dolmen to block the sun again. It gave you some really wonderful lighting effects to work with. I do see some extreem softness in the grass which I cannot understand. Did it hapen form some of the PP work?

Cool shot Stephen
I'm impressed with the effect you get shooting into the direction of the sun.
Maybe though the rock is a bit too centred in the frame.
Still, its a very nice landscape.
