[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
After a rather mild and relatively dry winter, I was expecting an explosion of insect life in Spring, offering many macro opportunities to keep me busy. I couldn't have been more wrong!!! Insects this year have not been so prolific, with some usually very common species not being seen at all!
As compensation, I have encountered some insects I had not photographed before. One such is this shield bug I have not been able to identify.
I tentatively tried comparisions but came up with very similar bugs: Carpocoris Fuscispinus, Deliycoris Baccarum, Caprocoris mediterraneus and cadophila varia.
Which to apply I really don't know....maybe some helpful soul could help please?
Shot was take using a macro flash I was lucky to unearth from old stock and with the Raynox up front. Narrowest aperture setting on the Lumix and my monopod for support. The bug wouldn't oblige, continuously hiding one of its antennae until I lost patience and took the shot as shown.

Hello Mark,
a really nicce introductory picture of the bug species. Colours and structures are clearly presented. I'm not quite sure, but my suggestion is
- Carpocoris purpureipennis

This is a magnificent macro!
I like so much all the clear and sharp details got on the insect.
The textures are simply amazing! as well the the redish and brown colours.
The bright yellow really stands out and creates an intense contrast with the dark background.

cet insecte est souvent repoussé mais vous en avez tiré un belle photo,nette et detaillée.
le jaune devant l'insecte perturbe un peu a mon gout mais dans l'ensemble c'est beau.

Never mind one semi-hidden antenna, Mark. The image of this bug is just wonderful in its totality.
The details and colours on the insect are brilliant.
The BG composed of the petals of a yellow flower and the olive green dark space between them looks almost abstract and serves well to highlight the subject.

Wonderful contrast and brilliant vivid color.
Interesting bug. Looks like some we have in this neck of the woods but ours are gray (stink bugs - not a very romantic name, huh?)
