Dear Friends,
I hope I am not boring you with my Kingfisher pictures.
It 's such a beautiful bird that I can't resist photographing it whenever the oppertunity arises. This picture was taken last year and is a favourite of mine . I have cropped the picture to get a close-up of its head. I hope you will like it.

Now about some information on Whitebreasted Kingfisher.

Whitebreasted Kingfisher, Halcyonsmyrnensis, is a brilliiant turquoise-blue kingfisher with deep chocolate-brown head, neck and underparts, a conspicuous white "shirt front", and long heavy pointed red bill. In flight black and white patches are visible on blue wings.

It's one of the most familiar of our kingfishers. it's usually seen at ponds, puddles, paddyfeilds etc. It eats fish, tadpoles, small crabs, lizards and grasshoppers. I've seen it pouncing down on the prey and flying off with it to a nearby perch where the prey is battered to death and swallowed. The nesting season is March to July. The nest is ahorizontal tunnel dug into the side of a dry earth cutting.

Hi Smitha,

this is an excellent shot, with a very unusual perspective.

The clarity and sharpness in this quality shot is perfect, especially with the good use of depth of field.

Nice shot of this colorful kingfisher!

Hi Smitha,
I missed your earlier pictures of this kingfisher. This picture shows, how close you can go near the bird, if it is not disturbed. Good capture. My only comment is the lower angle. I didnot like.I will look into other pictures and get back to you.TFS

Great close up. Interesting point of view. Excellent sharpness. I love the reflections on the eye.

Hello Smitha,
I have seen quite a number of White-breasted Kingfishers, but never in such detail and from such POV! You must have been close to get such a sharp shot, even though it is cropped.
On the contrary, this is not boring: it is a super post!
Thanks for sharing this one,
Best wishes, Ivan

Smitha, Absolute wonder. Did you crop or this is the picture you shot. In any case the eye contact is beautiful. I am in Kerala and can be reached on 0492-2201170. Will call u tmrw.

Namaste Smitha,
this bird is wonderful, I like the glance in the eye and to see it so close is very impressive. I haven't seen such a bird with my own eyes, they are so shy and rare here in Germany.

A superb close-up shot of a Kingfisher, Smitha.
I am smitten by the beauty of its single eye in view; I can see and admire a bit of the sky reflected in it.
Your point of view is also very original here, focusing on the white patch under the bird's chin.
Well done and TFS.
