I certainly do not know the species and the portrait photo, good as it is, do not really show enough of the bird to identify it from books.
Good picture with good sharpness, composition and feathering detail. Good catchlight with possibly your reflection in it.

Hello Annick,

This is an excellent close-up showing a beautiful portrait of an astonishing quality! You must have been pretty close to capture such great details!


Composition:

The composition is perfect to draw attention to the eye and the square format is very appropriate! I like the way you distributed the empty space around the subject. You offer us a POV we rarely see in reality. The eye contact is excellent! I can even see you taking the picture in the reflections in the eye! The OOF background is excellent for isolating the subject as it doesn't contain distracting objects! Very well done!

Colors:

The colors look natural and sharpness is well adjusted! The green background suggests the bird's natural environment. I appreciate the lack of artificial objects in the background.

Contrast:

Very good contrast to define the tiny details. It is a positive thing to have the best contrast in the most important area of the picture and less contrast in the background.

Exposure:

You controlled the exposure with great skill! The details were perfectly rendered in both shadows and highlights! I wasn't able to spot any overexposed or underexposed areas in your picture.

Focus:

Focus was achieved with precision on the roller's face! The relatively large aperture resulted in a nicely blurred background while the bird is in sharp focus. The details in the plumage are razor sharp and so are the features of the bird's face. There is a slight sharpness fall-off on the head and chest but it isn't distracting. I think you have very steady hands and a good IS to get this outstanding sharpness as the shutter speed was kind of slow for shooting handheld with a 200 mm focal length. The results are breathtaking! Great job!

Overall a wonderful portrait presented in a delicate square frame! The notes are also useful and well written! Excellent work! Thanks for sharing!
