Ok...just one more arch. I had such fun taking these shots. This one doesn't reveal Mount Whitney but a peak to the south of it, of which I don't know the name. It is interesting that this colorful rock is the same granite as the mountains beyond but has been subjected to different weathering processes. My next posts will be more about these "Alabama Hills" and their interesting rock formations.

I didn't include settings for two reasons. 1. I forgot to note it and it is a sort of convoluted process right now to get it. 2. It doesn't mean much because I used my point and shoot and aperture settings on them mean something different than on an SLR.

I don't often check "Tripod" but 99% of my shots are taken with a "bipod" of my husband's invention. It is just too cool, and quick; and because all my cameras and/or lenses are stabilized it works pretty well.

Now that this shot is posted I can detect a sharpening halo along the highest contrast edge. I think there is some mysterious force at work that makes it impossible to see some of these details until AFTER they are posted! : P

Hi Evelynn. a very nice landscape shot. the colours are beautiful. your POV is just right. very well done TFS.
Nick..

Yes I can see you had fun doing the arches. Perhaps ...well I am already thinking of them matted and framed in stainless, in a group of three with one being large and the other two askew a bit....on the wall. In itself this would be a good presentation for a wall...if the wall were large, and the pics....well I'm no decorator, but I would do it...Perhaps though with all your lovely shots..you wold need a mansion..

Hi Evelyn

You really have a knack of finding wondeful viewpoints. I love the colours and light and the contrast between the sharp mountains and smooth arch.

Hola Evelynn.
preciosa postal,
bello pov,
me agrada la excelente vista...
has logrado un disparo genial,
saludos

I can imagine this must have been great fun Evelynn.
This is another perfect example of your perfect eye for composition.
Most beautiful depth with the mountains in the BG visibly through the arch.
Wonderful brown and blue color tones.
Excellent work.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Harry

Hello Evelynn,
This is a fabulous scene. Capturing the moon in the image was an added bonus. Wonderful.
Cheers,
Debbie

Hi Evelynn,
this is a fascinating looking photo with the natural arch as a frame for the background landscape. It reminds me of a Dali painting brought to life. The halo you speak of is not very pronounced and this photo suffers little as a result as you have much detail, great colour and very good focus working magic in this composition.Tfs. Bob

Hi Evelynn,

I look at your portfoloi with envy. If I can have just one of your latest landscapes I would be happy. This one is fantastic. Very well done.

Jan-Hendrik

Hi Evelynn,
I really don't mind seeing many of your arch photos. They all give nature a kind of abstract touch. I like you were able to create different composition but still kept the mountain and moon in the hole. The shade gives the arch a more 3D effect.
TFS,
Niek

P.S. the photo got reinstated.

Ahh... I like this very much.
I like the form of the arch, slender and twisty.
Not so much of a monolith.
Great contrast of rock colors and interesting play of light and shadows.
I also like the shape of the "hole", and the sharpness of the details on the rock.
Very interesting composition.
TFS. : )

Hi Evelynn,
the soft morning light provided perfect colours. But most of all I really like the composition in your image. Well chosen object with the arch providing a peek on the mountain ridge in the background.
Regards, Jacob

Hi Evelynn,
What a beautiful way to start a day... I was so impressed by the landscape and the amazing view in "Window on Whitney", this one is also great with the moon in the frame. Composition, POV, colors and the beautiful morning light is so nice. Well done and TFS
