AQUILA NON CAPIT MUSCA - An old latin quote meaning ,,Eagles don`t catch flies,, and so should a photographer struggle for bigger ...
This is a Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetus)from Transylvanian Alps (Carpathians) in Romania. Here in Transylvania they are called ,,acvila de munte,, meaning ,,mountain eagle,,. She is the central symbol in Romanian heraldics for almost a thousand years unintrerupted until today the eagle holding a cross in her beak is the official Romanian coat of arms.
They are the largest bird of prey we have (not considering scavengers like vultures who feed on carcass rather than hunt live prey). Worth mentioning is that regardless of habitat spreading everywhere across Europe, Asia, North Africa, North America southward to central Mexico the numbers are in decline due to human intervention.
Large predator 30 inches long and 80 inches wingspan it will hunt anything from lochust and mice all the way up to foxes, coyotes, lambs or gazelle, remaining as the largest traineable bird in the sport of falconry, so prized in Mongolia and in muslim former Russian Republics for example. Some say her weight was to be paid in gold in Arabia.

Magnifique portrait Radu ! J'aime beaucoup son regard.
Bravo !

nice detailed portrait Radu, I think the composition is a little tight on the LH side, I would like to have seen a little more space for the bird to 'look into.' However the lighting has brought out some wonderful colours and detail in the plumage.

Good portrait. The colours are great, very sharp. I posted a workshop to improve the compo a little bit, make it less tight on the left side. Hope you like

Nice rich colours, and a beautiful looking bird. As Terry has said, a little tight around the beak, but what a magnificent bird.

Sorry points tomorrow.

Great shot, very good details and colours. It's just framed a bit too tight IMO.
Well done.

Good detail of that menacing hook on the end of the beak. Feather detail is fantastic. Nice mugshot. Well done. TFS
