Hello Friends,
I am going to post a series of photographs of Little Egret in Flight. This is the first in series. It just flew past me to land in the ploughing feild where its friends were having a feast. What I have noticed is that unlike Cattle egret , to which it has a good resemblance, the Little Egret depends mainly on aquatic forms for food. They are seldom seen when the feilds are parched and dry, but in Monsoon they appear from nowhere and can be seen wading the waterlogged feilds searching for food.
The Little egret,Egretta garzetta, is a snowy white marsh bird differntiated from the very similar Cattle Egret by its black bill and partly coloured black and yellow feet.(You can see it in the photo). It acquaires a drooping crest of two narrow plumes and some dainty filamentous ornamental feathers in both back and breast. Both sexes look alike.
The shot was taken with Nikon D200/ Nikkor AF S 300 hand held.Since the light was not that good , i had to use ISO 400 .
Thank you for stopping by.
Regards, Smitha.

Many thanks, Ulla

Hallo Smitha

Iíll be looking forward to your series of photos on this Little Egret. It looks to me like a Concorde plane coming in to land. I like what I see. The white of the bird is not burned out, and the backgroundís colour is just right for the emphasis to be on the bird itself. Detail is good. Very good photography of this bird in flight. I also visited through your portfolio, and you have some wonderful photos. Thanks for sharing. The information in your note is much appreciated. I enjoyed it, and it was very interesting.
I am also very excited, and was surprised as one of the photos on the gallery has been dedicated to my granddaughter Maryke. Please do yourself a favor and have a look of the following: Maryke's Little Clown I personally think it is stunning, and I am sure you will agree.
Kind regards from a rainy and wet South Africa.

Hello Smitha,
This is an excellent in-flight shot of a Little Egret, sharply showing all the features of the species with good contrast against the BG. Fine timing and composition.
Nice shot!
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hi Smitha,
This is really a wonderful shot! getting details on something which is as white as an egret is really very difficult and you have done well!

HI smitha, Just beautiful. I dont look at the BG and I simply look at the bird and its position/focus etc. Just simply wonderful. I am so far not able to take even one shot correct. Hope so sometime. Ganesh PT Theernthu Naalai
