You are feeling sleepy... very sleepy... Look deep into the picture and do what I say... :-). Well, it is a little hypnotic isn´t it?

This is a macro shot of a blue Globe-thistle taken at a place called Gunnebo slott (Gunnebo Castle) just outside Gothenburg. The surroundings is a popular place to take a walk, run or even ride horses. This picture is taken in a place where they grow lots of different plants like this thistle, tobaco and lots of other things that grew here at the time that the Castle was used for living in.

This thistle can be about one meter high and has thorny leafs. They are quite rare in Sweden and can mostly be seen on "culture affected" ground i.e old gardens and beside railroads. Originally it vomes from southern europe and it was first seen in the wild in Sweden in 1952 in Skåne (southmost of Sweden).

The latin name is bannaticus which means "from Banaterna". Banaterna is a region of Romania.

Good image of an attractive flower. We get these over here, but sadly my local ones got smashed up by various children before I had a chance to photograph them this year.

Colour is excellent, DOF is spot on, as is focus. Well done.

Very good focusing work on this lovely flower. I haven't seen this species in Canada, usually our thistles are pink. This is a splendid flower, and you did a fine job at capturing it, Urban.

Urban
this looks like something pikemen can use, sharp points all over! Great colour and simple yet So affective a POV Well done!

Urban. I like your shot. Especially the fact that is not just spikes (I shot one of those some time ago and think it is too boring to post) but that it is a combination of spikes and flowers. Colours are great. It is nice to see the same colours in the blurry background.
Greetings, Jan

I saw this and my heart dropped as I thought oh no not another domestic plant for me to have to ask some body to remove. But it would seem that you have managed the imposible and justified it with your note, as I keep saying its the note that makes or breaks an image here on TN.
Not only that it goes down as one of the best images of this flower I've seen inclueding the flower books.

Very nice composition, Urban. This shot is excellent. I love the flowers on top, and the blue hues. Great work. Thanx for sharing.

Excellent composition and good DOF. This blue color is also nice. Well done !

Bonita flor y muy bien capturada Urban.
Excelente encuadre, muy buena profundidad y colorido.
Bien hecho.

Pretty flower and very well captured Urban.
Excellent frame, very good colorful and depth. Well done.

Very interesting picture Urban. The limited dof provides a very good (hypnotic - as you say) effect. I think the effect would have been even stronger if the focus was on the centre bud (seems like it is on the top here). the colours and the cropping are good.

Les photographes qui ont un C5060 sont doués ;-) Composition originale et très jolie !
Well done !

Urban, this is a very impressive shot!!! Very good sharpness, DOF and colours. Nice!!

Never seen such a amazing flower. Your tight framing works well to impress the eye with the regular pattern on the lower part. Beautiful blue shades, and, IMO, a special mention for the top, where the curly petals are aligned and seem to represent a writing. Perfect progressive DOF up to a very good blurred background. A very succesful image, Urban.

Very good macro.
I like this very much.
Great colours and sharpness.
Very good and informative note,
Excellent work.

Great !!!!!
Excellent, Urban, excellent.
Thanks

Really awesome picture. The composition is excellent. The lighting is nice and mute, which makes the blue hues in the flower really glow on their own. I also love how the center spike is, well, centered.. and how every other spike radiates away from it. The DOF in this image is BEAUTIFUL -- the outtermost spikes are a bit blurry, but the ones in the middle are so clear... that effect really adds a tremendous amount of depth to the picture. Very well done -- I've added it as one of my favorites!

Hi Urban,
This is an incredible close up. So clear! And so blue! I ran out of smiley faces today but will try to return later & add one.
