Hello,

Here is a charming hummingbird photographied on the Margarita Island (Venezuela) on the west part of the island (which is a lot more desertic)... This one was caught on pixels while we were resting during a jeep tour in the sand dunes... His name is Buffy Hummingbird

I really don't find a lot of informations on Internet about this endemic hummingird (north of South America only). Is it the most common hummingbird of the desertic coast of Venezuela and Columbia.

The other strange thing about it is about its scientific name (Leucippus fallax) and its name in french (Colibri trompeur)... Both name (fallax and trompeur) means "misleading" in english... Go figure why???

Any comments?

Thank you!

Michel

Hi Michel

Yes my friend, charming it is indeed. One thing that is not "misleading" is the quality of the arrest on pixel. Although this lovely little bird might have an identity crisis due to the ambiguous reference in its species name or even in its French common name, but that does not deter one iota of its beauty and the remarkable (no incredible) way you have captured it. Stunning stuff.

You have almost frozen that exceedingly fast moving wings and possibly that was through the good fortune of the bird holding on to the flower stem. The composition is excellent with the flower stem running through the left 1/3 vertical axis and the bird occupying some of the remaining space of the 2/3 to the right. The colours are soothing on the eye, the details are sharp and well defined, the brilliant exposure was perfectly managed, and the extraordinary desert BG is well removed and OOF thus highly complimentary to the subject.

Great work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hello Michel,
Impressive photo with superb colors and composition. Background is particularly unique in its color, and the 1/800-sec was perfect to capture the fast wing motion. Regards,

Hi Michel.
I am touched by your heart words of congratulations. I shall aspire to correspond to them.

Your next shot is simply superb but clear impressive subject and outstanding technique of execution. All is perfect: lighting (it is great), razor sharpness of the bird and plant details, perfect exposure parameters and so on. Bravo and thank for my next favorite shot.

Hello Michel,
Wonderful all round photo. A brilliant POV and bg colours.
Simply a great photo,
regards
Matt.

Hello Michel,
the delightfully smooth earthy colours and a strict composition make this image an eye catcher. Also the hummingbird and its constant motion are perfectly well captured here - good details caught but still enough motion blur to look perfectly natural.
Why it's called a fallax or trompeur, je ne sais pas. I guess "buffy" does describe it better.
With thanks, and my best regards,
Peter

Hi Michel,
