Hello my Friends!
After 2 weeks of very fruitful entomological studies in Spala Landscape Park I am again in Lodz!!! :>

Yes, you are right, I wrote above that it was an entomological trip and of course this is not an insect, and even not an arthropod species but an amphibian, but I promisse to show something with six legs next time

If you remember my last amphibian presentation there was a very similar species, especially in body colouration. But it was not only a different species but also a member of different genus and different family.
So this is only an example like different species can adapt to the environment in similar way :>

This time here we have a green toad - Bufo viridis, one of only 3 species of this genus known from Poland. Two other are: a rather common Bufo bufo and very rare Bufo calamita.
Sometimes it is recorded as Pseudepidalea viridis too.

This species is wide-distributed in western Palaearctic, where is inhabits warm places mainly on sandy grounds.
Adult individuals hunt mainly on insects (including beetles from families Carabidae, Staphylinidae, Chrysomelidae, Curculionidae, and also moths and butterflies, ants and springtails - Collembola), but also spiders, snails and slugs and earthworms.

As all other Bufo species, also this one is protected in Poland by the law.

This picture was taken in Gapinin village, which is localized in "Pilica River Valley" Natura 2000 area, Spala Landscape Park.

And last but not least, I would like to dedicate this "military toad" to Romanian group of reptile and amphibian lovers and great herpetologists: Horia, Alex, and Iulian.

As always, please feel free to watch other members of Polish herpetofauna here.

Hi Radomir.
Thank you for greetings and kind comments.
I like your stunning pictures and this one too. It looks like work of grate sculptor. The reproduction of all animal details and skin texture. Work of flash is also blameless as well as the composition of the shot. Note is perfect and written by skilful scientist. I like it very much (I mean your style). My congratulations and best wishes.

Hello Radomir,
I am hypnotised by the beauty of this toad, one that I would very much like to captur here in Scania where it is rare but it is being implanted in several suitable habits with the hope that it will increase in numbers.
Great sharp capture with excellent lighting, BG and sharpness.
TFS and all the best,

Hello Radomir,
Excellent close-up of the toad donning a camo. I particularly like the colors here, esp. the greens which look quite natural. Perfect technique! Regards,

Great compo and pov.
Thank you very much for dedicate to me, Alex and Horia this pic, is beautiful.

That is very interesting how the two amphibians are so similar and yet so different in actuality. I like the camouflage effect on both of them. This fellow blends right into his surroundings. It is a wonderful sharp presentation of him.

Evelynn : )

Hello Radomir,

This is a very good picture of a "camouflage" toad :) I recently bought a military camouflage net for photographing birds but must say that I can't blend into the environment as good as this toad. It is also a great dedication for the photographers who love this creatures.

At the beginning I thought you should have included the whole stone into your composition. But then the picture would have conveyed some kind of relationship between the toad and the stone, as if they interact somehow. Therefore I can now say that the composition very good the way it is now. It presents the "Military Toad" Very well. The eye contact is excellent and the pose of the toad is characteristic.

The colors of the toad look natural and well saturated. They blend nicely into the environment. I also like the textures of the skin.

The contrast is very well adjusted to enhance the fine details.

You proved great photographic skills by correctly exposing this subject. There are no harsh shadows and the details were preserved in both highlights and shadows. I guess the (fill) flash played a big role here. The white stone was especially prone to overexposure if not careful. You handled it well!

The excellent focus on the toad rendered outstanding details in the subject! Amazingly, I can even see your silhouette reflected in the creature's eye! If the catchlight comes from your flash, I must ask whether you used an off-camera flash or light source as it seems to be fairly far from your head. I can also tell that there was at least one person joining you while taking the picture. I'll stop here before I turn this into a forensic science :) The well controlled DOF was a key factor to isolate the subject from the surroundings. Very well done!

Well done again my friend! You really do your job with dedication and passion. Thanks for sharing!

With Friendly Regards,

Ya te han dicho todo de esta toma jajaja. Yo destacar bajo mi punto de vista la excelente luz y la preciosa mezcla de colores. La profundidad buena. El fondo y el primer plano de arena en conjunto con los colores del batracio inmejorables. Preciosa .
Saludos Radomir.
