Ideopsis gaura perakana (The Small Wood Nymph)
(FAMILY : Nymphalidae) (Subfamily : Danainae)

The Ideopsis gaura is a rather rare butterfly from Tapah Hills, Perak, Malaysia. It is quite a slow flyer and is attracted to flowers.

That is all I can find out about this special butterfly that I saw at Butterfly Creek over the weekend. There were quite a few of them flying around, so I practiced photographing them. It isn’t too sharp and clear, but I’ll keep trying! I hope you like him.

Butterflies are beautiful, flying insects with large scaly wings. Like all insects, they have six jointed legs, 3 body parts, a pair of antennae, compound eyes, and an exoskeleton. The three body parts are the head, thorax (the chest), and abdomen (the tail end).

The butterfly's body is covered by tiny sensory hairs. The four wings and the six legs of the butterfly are attached to the thorax. The thorax contains the muscles that make the legs and wings move.

Janice very good close-up! I like the details and sharpness of your photo. The pink flower is dreamful and well isolated from your butterfly.

Well done on your first butterfly post. It's funny that it's the same type of butterfly as my first one the other day. Maybe the Ideopsis likes posing. But it's true it's not easy.

You've done very well with your first butterfly. They are hard to capture as I know they flit around all over the place. The composition and colours are great. Just a tad out of focus though. Perhaps stand back a bit more, then you can always enlarge the butterfly in post processing.
