This photo was taken out in the middle of Lake Erie. For those who don't know Lake Erie is one of the 5 great lakes which divide the USA with Canada. Lake Erie is the 10th largest Lake in the world , and the 4th Largest of the Great lakes. Its 57 Miles across its border from Canada to the US, and 243 Miles lengthwise from Buffalo New York to Toldeo , Ohio.
So needless to say it gets some big storms. Which I've witnessed a few since my husband and I live on the shores of this lake.
Anyway...about the photo. Of course being on a ship you keep an eye on the weather reports and the report did say there were water spout warnings that afternoon. I was sitting in my husbands office on his ship when I noticed it got dark really quick so I went to look out the window and saw the sky tumbling....
Really the clouds were rolling in front of me and each roll they got lower and lower til I swear if another front hadn't come in with a sheet of rain I swear I would of been able to touch them in a matter of minutes. It was really really wierd! No water spouts seen by us but I think we might of just missed them as we basically sailed out of the storm before it happened I think. I did nothing to this photo but try to imagine the clouds as they roll...

I found this very interesting. I cannot imagine how it would feel to be on a large lake and find clouds like this moving in. Very dramatic.

Hi Donna
I think its gonna rain.Nice shot. I like the POV.
Well done

Hi Donna,
This is almost apocalyptic!
It is so good the cloud formations, quite frightening if you're on a boat at the middle of the lake.
The colour couldn't be more representative of a storm.
I like so much this composition, with all that gorgeous sky dominating the image.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,

nothing like a great cloud shot. this is original and excellent. glad to find it here on this site. i'm inspired

A very dramatic and threatening sight. Very well captured!

A fascinating picture of ominous storm clouds, Donna.
You have been very successful in conveying the sense of power latent in them and their enormous size and color. The two strips of contrasting colors representing water and sky put the storm clouds in perfect perspective.
Well done and TFS.

salut Donna,
quelle image impressionnante, une vraie journée en enfer. Superbe cadrage totalement décallé pour donner plus de poids au nuages, impressionnant.

Hello Donna,
This looks scary, really threatning!
Good thing you were on a big ship, able to take what might come...
The dramatic clouds are well exposed, and the light in a distance adds to the atmosphere!

This is a dramatic shot Donna and I'm glad it was you and not me there!! : ) It would have made me a tad nervous too. I really like the dark lake and the pink horizon. I'm surprised that you were able to out sail it!

Evelynn : )

Hi Donna,
This indeed is an eerie feeling the Lake erie presents. The dark clouds look ominous and its strength and intensity is well portrayed. I like the light glow separating the clouds and the water. Excellent POV to capture this scene and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hello Donna,
This is really eerie! I doesn't take lot of imagination to get an impression of the impending storm! Very dramatic photograph!
Kind regards,

Hi Donna

It is really strange to see photos like this, we rarely get anything quite so dramatic in the UK... I really get the impression that there is a lot of rain to come. great shot and notes.
