Egyptian Vulture (Juvenile)
Neophron percnopterus
TR: Kucuk Akbaba

Egyptian vultures are summer visitors of Turkey, and they also breed here. It winters in Africa and India.
The image is taken from the hills of the garbage dump in Beypazari. In the original version the tips of the wings didn't fit in the frame, so I chose to crop for uploading.

The Egyptian Vulture, (Neophron percnopterus) also known as Scavenger Vulture is a small Old World vulture, found from N. Africa to South west Asia. It is the only member of the genus Neophron.

The adult's plumage is black and white. Its facial skin is yellow (it turns orange during nesting periods) and devoid of feathers. The tail is diamond shaped, so it is easily distinguished in flight. The nestlings are dark brown and gradually become light by adulthood at the age of 5.

The adult Egyptian Vulture usually measures 85 cm from the point of the beak to the extremity of the tail and 1.7m between the tips of the wings. It weighs about 2.1 kilograms.

Egyptian Vultures are quite widely distributed and can be found in South Europe, N. Africa, West and South Asia. They are partial migrants, depending on the local climate. If the Egyptian Vulture can endure the local winter it will usually not migrate. It is not well adjusted to cold weather conditions, mainly because of its surface area-volume ratio that causes a quick loss of heat.

Egyptian Vultures are scavengers, mainly feeding off carrion, but they also prey on small mammals and eggs.

Great in flight close-up capture Selen.
Like always in your images sharpness, composition and lighting are spot on. My compliments.
What I especially like in this image is the way the head of the vulture is lighted by the sun and the rest of the body and wings are darker.
Works wonderfully as being spotlighted.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards,

Best regards.

An incredible moment you captured. I don't think many people had a chance to see this live.
Best wishes,

Wow Selen, Stunning Capture with excellent detail and POV, just beautiful. Congratulations on a great image...well worth the green smily :) Cheers Rick

My favourite style of shot Selen. Love the in flights, and when they are as good focus as this, it is even more special. The head is particularly exceptional detail.
I thing the body would have been lighter and shown more details if exposure was not 1/2000 and f 6.3.
My thoughts are you can stop them as well with a bit slower speed and higher F/stop.
I actually prefer you choice in crop. we cannot always have the wings complete when trying to zoom close.

Great work... on a vulture in turkey.
turkey in turkey...I'm confused...I thought you were South America.
Have a nice week.
