Macaws are large colorful New World parrots, classified into six of the many Psittacidae genera: Ara, Anodorhynchus, Cyanopsitta, Primolius, Orthopsittaca, and Diopsittaca. They are the largest birds in the parrot family in length and wingspan, though the flightless Kakapo is heavier. Previously, the members of the genus Primolius were placed in Propyrrhura, but the former is correct as per ICZN rules.

Parrots are zygodactyl, like woodpeckers, having 4 toes on each foot – two front and two back.

Macaws are native to Mexico, Central and tropical South America. Most species are associated with forest, especially rainforest, but others prefer woodland or savanna-like habitats.

They are called guacamayos in Spanish and araras in Portuguese.

Hi Annick
What a compo! GREAT
Zoo animal photography is a little bit different from wildlife photography, you are closer to the subject and you have plenty of time. You simply take the chance to create real Artwork! Many Zoo pictures are so boring, but yours are simply GREAT

Dear Annick!
Wow! What an artistic capture! I like this close-up a lot. Colours are vivid and perfectly saturated, DOF and POV really impressive and composition very good.
And moreover, I can learn a lot about the technique - data about picture are so detailed :)

The rich colors are so attractive. The light was perfect and the details in the feathers show us so well. I really like the browns in this photo. A great composition with artistic flare. A very interesting study in colors and composition.

bonjour Annick
superbe image particulièrment colorée. Le cadrage est subtilement décentré avec un bon focus sur l'oeil. L'ensemble est d'une grande clareté, c'est très agréable

Hi Annick...just goes to show you don't always need the full bird in to get a good result. Good framing and composition with a colourful subject makes a competent result. Best, Brat.
