[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Laughing Gull (Larus ridibundus), also known as the Black-headed Gull, is a very common gull in Europe and Asia, but it was new to my Canadian eyes.
The chocolate brown head, which appears at first almost black, is part of its summer finery, replaced in winter with white and leaving only vertical streaks of the brown.
Tech: heavy overcast, shot handheld with Nikkor 70-300mm lens on loan for the day, converted from RAW to jpg

Thanks for looking and have a wonderful day

Hi Silke,
well exposed against such a bright grey sky with nice sharp detail in his underbelly...these things wake me up at 5a.m every morning with their 'laughing'...i fail to see the joke myself ;o)

Hi Silke,

I never tire of seeing gulls which we do not have here in Tucson. Nice pose. The grey sky blends in well with his colors. I like the white in his eye.

Hello Silke,
Looking for food, that's what's he is up to!
Good point of view, impressive details in the plumage...
Nice birds but with a dubious reputation!

Hello silke,
Nice shot of a Black(not really)-headed Gull with a frontal view of the head. You managed the difficult lighting very well and kept the exposure on the low side. Nice sharpness and excellent composition.
Well done and TFS!

Hi Silke. A very fine capture of the Gull. good detail in the feathers. he has his eye on you. good POV. well done TFs.

Hi Silke,
Very good exposure, details, DOF, and POV. I think the only thing that might improve it would a BG with more contrast to subject..
I had fun shooting these same birds, from our hotel balcony two years ago down on Galvestion Island, Texas.
Well done!

Hello Silke

A new one for me.Very good focus and details. The colours are well saturated as the head appears chocolate brown on my monitor.Excellent eye contact too.The pose is a classic gull pose.TFS

Hi Silke,
It looks like a very proud Gull. The way he poses really looks like a royal guard. Considering the dull weather, you managed perfect exposure. Looks like that on loan lens did the job perfectly.

Hello Silke,
A nice capture and very good details in it. Very good POV and composition. Wish you good health soon from that dreaded disease. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Belle photo de cette mouette, deux beaux tons, plus dégradé de blanc, elle est très jolie, bien prise, le blanc n' est pas sur exposé,bien nette. Amitiés Thomas

Hi Silke
The pose of the bird is haughty, waiting for its next bad action.
Good details,up to the fine feathers that are well detailed.
The light on the bird is excellent.
Do not turn your back to these birds,:-)

Have a nice evening

Hi Silke. A beautifully clear close of of this laughing gull which seems to wear a black hat. Difficult lighting but still an excellent image. TFS. Murray.

These birds are unknown to NZ too. Quite an attractive fellow with that hooded head! Good shot Silke

Nice Bird. It seems the focus is centred on the belly of the bird rather than on the eyes or the neck, though I am not sure, It may so happen that a little overexposition of the neck has erased the focussing details. Is this bird a sea-gull?
