[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Down a long (24km) single track road can be found Loch Etive and this was another of the locations that I visited with Niek (SunToucher) when he came to Scotland last month.

A different time of year can create a totally different effect as well as a different time of day.

My original of this one (here) was taken on the 3rd February at 2pm in the afternoon. Winter is known as the brown season in our family and if you remeber the photo, you will understand why. It is also our preferred season to visit Scotland.

This one was taken in what is known in our family as the 'blue and green' season, 15th July at 5pm. Rain (sorry Niek) supplies ample water to the grasses and heather/ling which turn the area green. Blue because we usually get very good weather when we visit at this time of year (sorry to the rest of you who got very wet this year visit the same areas).

The Purple season occurs in August, when the heather and ling flower sending Scotland purple, pink and white. One day I will get there during that period...

I won't bore you all with copying the same info on Loch Etive from my previos posting, so if you would like to read me about it... but it does have an interesting feature. It is a sea loch, but it is higher than sea level... the weeds you see in the water in the foreground are in fact seaweed...

The picture was taken in RAW, using my 105mm B&W Circular Polarising Filter with -1/3EV. 2 images were created from the origianl RAW, 1 lighter for the mountains on the left and one darker for the rest of the image and then 'merged' using layer masks so that so detail in the mountains bcame visible. And although there may appear to be a 'halo' between the mountains and the sky, I can assure you that there is not, it is actually a brighter spot of cloud!

I appreciate that the pier is a manmade structure, and that it is almost exactly central in this picture, I had planned to walk back along the shore to where the other picture had been taken, to have less of an emphasis on it, but just as I set out, a family in a speedboat came up the loch and ruined the reflection. On top of that they took an eternity getting out of it and it out of the water and would have been in the way from the other location, so we left and went onwards... a shame becuase that cloud reflection was beautiful, but could not be helped.

Hi Emma,
one of the many little nuggets i still have left to explore in Scotland!
Compo, exposure and symmtery are all great and although there is a man made structure in the middle here, i think it adds an interesting aspect and does not detract from the shot. The refelcted cloud works very well too, perfrectly positioned. i reallly must start using the double RAW merging technique you seem to be so adept at using.

Hi Emma,
So funny to see just that slightly different POV compared to those I have on file. I am glad we got there on time before the stuppid boat appeared. It was a really wonderful and special area to see. I do hope to see it again during one of the other colored seasons.
Not much to say at this late time of day other than that I love it.

Wonderful reflection here Emma. It is a lovely, image if I block out the vision of a speedboat! You would have had a long wait for the water to become glass smooth again. I understand that you probably wanted the building to disappear into the shadow. I found that because its reflection is so dominate in the water that revealing just a very little bit of the building itself feels a little more balanced to me.... but perhaps not for TN. It is a really nice, peaceful image with great sharpness and natural color.

A lovely reflection of this amazing landscape!
Attractive summer clouds, and the varied light brings life to the scenery...
I notice the lack of vegetation of some size, but the fresh green mountain slopes make up for that!
