This is my first session photographing a snail! I have seen beautiful pictures of them but never had chance to shoot one. Today afternoon Smitha told me that she had shot few pics of snail and were not happy with the result, in fact she even kept it for me to shoot. With her as my assistant I had better luck and lighting conditions :)

The name snail applies to most members of the molluscan class Gastropoda that have coiled shells, but the word is most often applied to the various species of pulmonate land snails, which live in almost every kind of habitat, from deserts and mountains, to marshes, woodland, and gardens.

Snails in the wider sense can be found in an even greater range of different environments: the great majority are marine, but many are terrestrial, and numerous kinds can be found in freshwater and even brackish water. Most snails are herbivorous, though a few land species and many marine species are omnivores or carnivores. ...Source Wikipedia

Hi Anil,
I wanted to comment on this a long time back but some how could not make time to visit TN. This is a superb picture with wonderful details and colors. The sun glare is special. The lighting on the snail and the translucent body make this an wonderful picture to watch.

Anil, Excellent picture. Both the sparkle and the shadow lighting are brilliant. For a moment I thought that you got the translucent body in the picture with the back lighting. The picture is amazingly clear and the background is superb.

Congratulations!

What a bute Anil,
can you tell us a little more about the lighting conditions
I like the diagonal compo, and of course the way you have "shon" thru the snail's softer parts.

Hello Anil,
This is a very beautiful picture the angle of the stick displaying your subject is very nice and the details are pin sharp. I reall like how the light moves through the semi-transparent snail with that extra starburst light on the top of the shell. Well done. :)

Anil,

What a beautiful shot, I love the light on the snail, excellent focus and sharpeness in this image. Well done!

Happy holidays!

Hi Anil,
It is not only necessary but also extremely desirbale to go back into your portfolio because you take pictures infrequently and when you do, they are veritable gems in terms of creativity.
The image of this snail is a gem because you have captured the "twinkle" on its body.
It is not an every day phenomenon. First of all, snails rarely twinkle, so when they actually do, they need Anil to capture them.
Beautiful image that speaks volumes about your talents as a nature photographer.
You have used the light so well here the entire shell looks as if it is made of gold.
Looking forward to your new picture,
Ram

Excellent shot! I love the twinkle and the shallow pov with the greenish colours of the bg. The backlit body looks charming. Sharply focussed and well composed. Thanks for sharing.

Victor
