I took this photo on a hike up towards Silver Lake here in Utah. I don't really know what kind of plant it is, but the purple of the blossoms was spectacular.

Simple, no clutter, a lovely weed. As Robert mentioned, some notes, please, even if it is about the hike, the climate, how you felt etc. Thare are some guys here who knows a lot about a lot of things, and some will even help with wedsites too.

Welcome on TN Mark. Very nice first post of what I think might be a Cirsium arvense (Canada Thistle or Creeping Thistle in English, Agertidsel in Danish). You are absolutely right about the blossom and you handled the kight very well not to burn it out.
