Common Gull

Cepora nerissa evagete, Fabricius

Its medium sized black, white and yellow butterfly with a wingspan of 40-50 mm.

It is a common widely distributed insect of the scrub jungles of the intermediate, dry and arid zones. It is commonest during the pre-monsoon period and is sometimes seen in the hills during migrations.
It flies moderately fast in a zigzag path with a continuous flapping of its wings and keeps relatively low to the ground. It moves through dense scrub quite well, though it often goes around thickets or simply flies over them, keeping a uniform distance between itself and the foliage. When it settles to nectar in its wanderings, it keeps its wings slightly open and often hangs on the flower or sits at an incline. It is often found in the company of other other 'Whites' such as the Yellow and White Orange Tips, the Pioneer and the Striped Albatross, which all share the same habitat. Like them, it is attracted to wet gravel or the edges of drying up pools on river beds, especially during hot weather.

Hello Pankaj,
Very fine and poetical picture. Beautiful light on the flower. Here the little lack of sharpness doesn't disturb. Excellent composition

Hi Pankaj,
Missed numbering the prev one. so 103, 104. Still a lot way to go. This is very nicely captured and also not easy to capture. Every time I hunt for butterflies I see these but still not success in registering one in my archives. Very nice work. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Pankaj,
Every time I look at your pictures, I'm always impressed by this great diversity you have in India. This is such a lovely one. I like its lime color a lot, it seems so delicate. Those tones of colors are beautiful and this is a nice composition. TFS this lovely specie!

Pankaj for a moment I thought how did i post this picture. Then realised its your picture.
Well done Ganesh

Great composition...love the way the little flower is leaning into the photograph. And the weightlessness of the butterfly is very apparent. Aren't they amazing! Great light and wonderful color. Good details down to the hair on the flower's stem. :)

Hello Pankaj,
Wonderful composition showing this beautiful butterfly on a pretty flower against a fine dark background. Lovely colours, the wings look almost transparent. It's a little bit soft but it isn't very disturbing here as the attention is drawn to the composition.
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

Hello Pankaj,
Nice well composed image of the Common Gull, the white flower that it is taking nectar from looking like a shining light that seems to light up the butterfly too. This, together with the natural BBG make the shot very attractive.

Hello again
Another great picture. Very good composed, excellent colours and sharpness. Nice flower on the second plan. Thanks

You are still going strong my friend. I have been very busy and may have missed you the other day, but I always remember how good you are when I see your new picture's.
