Fiery Skipper
Hylephila phyleus

Thanks Ivan(Argus) for the ID

And Thanks to Bob and Claudine for the workshops

Dang, I came so close to getting the exposure and DOF right but no cigar. There are sooo many Skippers that I finally just gave up. I will call it "Skip" and be done with it. What I like about this photo is all the pollen on the Indian Blanket. Oooooooops! I mean Native American Blanket. "Sorry" I am amazed at what I notice since I started taking photos of things other than the beach, fish, waves and bikini clad women. Maybe one day I will get a better camera a delve deeper into the wondrous world of macro.

Hi Jim,
Wonderful close-up shot of the 'Skip' with such lovely colours and neat focus on the eyes. A bigger DOF would have helped to get the entire wings in focus but this looks nice all the same. Great to know that you love bare nature more than those bikini clad beauties, the mind here is more free of 'what-could-be' thoughts, ha ha ha. Excellent POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.

I wondered if you were gonna post anything today.
Nice Skipper. I'll try to look it up in my book later but by then somebody will have identified it.
Beautiful colors...very vivid. Nice composition and great details. The flower is particularly sharp. Well done.

A good and very much savable picture Jim. So it's not perfect...if a picture is too perfect, it actually looses something. The colors make this one stick out and the unusual plant, flora which I have never seen.

Hello Jim,
Great capture in wonderful colours, I don't know which I like best, the Skipper or the flower! I think NeatImage has blurred the details a bit. The composition is excellent and the background colour makes the subjects really stand out.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hello Jim,

This is the first time I have heard of a skipper so I am glad the shot is clear. I like the flower it has chosen for lunch!

Good POV and composition!

kind regards,
Bev :-)

I love the depth of colour in this. As to the exposure: I captured my first skipper a few weeks ago and haven't posted it yet (later this week perhaps?) and backlighting seemed to do the trick. Hope you have a chance to try that, because I will bet your will be much better than mine :)
Superb composition and I love the background

Hi Jim,
Great capture!
Very nice colors and green BG.
Good POV and excellent composition.
Well done!
Best regards!
José Roberto

It may not be razor sharp but it is a stunning image nonetheless. The colors are wonderful as is the composition.

Evelynn ; )

I took one of these awhile back. It looks like an F-14 jet from the front. :-) I like the darker tones in this image, particularly the dark green BG. Well done.

Hello Jim,
I looked this skipper up in my old Klots book on American butterflies and after some research found that this is the Fiery Skipper (Hylephila phyleus), I then confirmed the ID on the internet.
Nice sharp capture on the Indian Blanket flower and a fine composition. This flower looks pretty good as a butterfly magnet!

Hello Jim,
I like the composition and the interesting colour-combination of this picture. Something special your shot.

Hello Jim,
Funny notes ;) This is a nice composition and beautiful capture of an interesting specie. Colors are well saturated and exposure looks very natural. Which ISO did you use? I did a quick WS trying to get rid of the noise left in BG, more for fun than anything else :) Thanks,

Hi Jim,

A nice image of the fiery skipper on the flower, the photo has a good composition, sharpness and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jim,
A nice capture of this skipper. But in my view it would have looked more beautiful if more space in upper and less in down. Anyway just my personal taste. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hola Jim,
Preciosa imagen de bonita composición, llena de bellos colores y buena definición, saludos
José Ramón
