[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This male Eastern Blue, resplendant in his breeding colors, is clearly the King of His Castle...or nesting box. It's that time of year again that the Bluebirds, both male and female, start to house hunt for this season's brood of babies. Once a nesting box has been choosen, they take turns watching over and defending from other birds. The worse of the possible usurpers is the House Sparrow. Many a generation has been lost due to this bird( sparrow) who has no compunction about throwing out a family of Bluebirds in order to make it their own home. As you can see this male looks to be quite vigilant.

Bluebirds will perch on the top of the box and from there will quickly fly down to the ground to grab a small insect or larvae on the ground. They will return lickity split to their post and enjoy their meal while keep watch.

What an extremely lovely bird Lesley! So colorful, so sweet and so fragile. The amazing colors of the bird stand out perfectly against all the other colors in the picture. Very well composed. Of course I would have liked to see the bird a little closer, but the picture is very nice nevertheless. Well done & TFS!
