[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the start of a primitive road in the wilderness. This picture includes Aspens, Birch, Maple, Apple and a couple of other species unknown to me. What you don't see in this 750 foot section of road, I have seen. From the position of my camera to the end of the road seen pictured...I have seen cougar, coyote, prairie dogs, porcupine, beaver, otter (wetlands not in view), eagle, kestrel, redtail hawk, magpie, pheasant, crow, mountain bluebird, yarrow, wild strawberry, mullein, and old chiefs home, remnants of a 1880 way station, summer, winter snows, spring floods washing away the road, fall...pictured now.

There are too many other species I have forgotten in the years. The road here is at it's best having just been graded for winters heavy fallings. It is the last you will see of any road that would be travelable by city car. It is the last of the flat part of the road. It is the ONLY flat part of the road. Now remember this humble start of the road is already at 1900 feet elevation in a mountain valley and from here it goes where few have gone, up up and away....

Yet for a simple start, this road is as full of nature in one day than any place I have ever been. And this area seen is moody. It can be foggy one day, slick with 2 inches of ice the nest day. It can be hot and dry one day and totally gone two days later in a flood. Geology changes this road. Nature changes the feelings of this road every day in enormous ways. Yet it looks in this picture as calm and wonderful as pumpkin pie and the smell of apple cider. You see....the camera can make magic. It captures a moment. It captures a feeling and it gives the road a personality. Simple as this was, it is now the picture I took this one fine fall day when it greeted me with this glorious smile.

Hi Bob. Sounds like my kind of place. had to go to London today glad to get back to Dorest tonight. As you say your picture shows a nice day with colour in the trees and sky. but it can all change so fast. a very nice compostion. and POV. well done TFS. great story too.

Great capture, particularly given it's a 1.2 meg camera. I could almost believe I was there, walking along the road camera in hand watching and listening. You've caught this a particularly nice time of year, although I guess you'd say it's a pretty special place all year round. Nice colours and light and great composition.

Hi Bob, Lovely color. The image brings me to memories of being in the Jakson Hole, Wyo. area in the fall.
The mild pixalation accentuates the light dancing on the leaves. Or is it the light of the trees dancing with the sun?
Nice sense of depth with the road narrowing to the BG.

Great scene with wonderful details and lovely colour tones. I like the way the road is leading my eyes in surrounded by those big trees on either side and to the blue mountains. Feels so soothing. Fantastic lighting and majestic ambience here captured with much deftness. Excellent POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Another fine bit of 1.2 MP mastery, Bob. You've captured this stretch at perhaps one of its most inviting moments, and yet the gold so quickly prevailing over the green signals another transition already more than a little under way. Good use of the road in the scene, good sharpness and pleasing results despite the challenge of that generally flat-toned mass of cloud. Engaging note, too, per usual :)
