[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Royal Spoonbill is indigenous to Australia and New Zealand, and can be found throughout the Australian continent except for the driest areas of central and western Australia.
They prefer freshwater wetlands, though also visit tidal estuaries around the coastline.
Like all spoonbill species, they are tactile feeders, moving their bill from side to side in silty or muddy water until they encounter an invertebrate, which is then captured and swallowed.
This one was found resting on the banks of the Hawkesbury River. It is just starting to come in breeding plumage, when the red on the forehead and yellow above the eye become brighter. Long plumes are also grown from the back of the head.

Quite an intersting species of Spoonbill, Chris. I like the contrast between its white plumage and dark legs and bill.
The image is very well presented.

Hi Chris

Splendid shot of this lovely bird. I love the contast in the darkish BG and the bright bird while you managed to retain excellent details on the white plumage.

The composition and cropping is great, the colours are well saturated, the DOF is spot-on and clearly visible in the fall-off on the grass, and the exposure was spot-on.

Very well done and TFS.

Hi Chris!

Very interesting and rarely seen on TN bird. Good POV, DOF and composition. Sharp and detailed. Most of all I like shape of its beak, shadows and details on feathers and yellow spot over eye. Good work my friend!
