When you're high up on a mountainside and can see 50 miles through the forests and trees of the Okanogan Highlands....then you know your in heaven on earth. The tamaracks are turning yellow and waiting for the next wind storm to come and blow them bare. The green firs and pines remain true to their color all through winter, which is one of the reasons this is called "The Evergreen State".

All of the animals I have ever previously mentioned live in this woods. It is the third largest county in Washington at 5,847 square kilometers or 2,257 square miles and the population is only 7000. That is 3 people per square mile. But humans live mainly in Republic, Curlew and Malo. Malo is not a town really, nor is Curlew. And in this picture I know of only 15 families in all the vista. Republic is the county seat. There are at very least 10 times the number of humans, in deer alone. Estimated number of mountain lion, or cougar is 138. I have seen 3 of them during one 4 year stint and 1 time in which I was being stalked at 20-25 feet. US Forest Service likes to count things...I have seen them in the middle of nowhere, sitting and counting...and tabulating on clipboards.

There is a blue/green cast to the mountains. It is not simply that I like the color blue, but the true color of what I saw. This again was taken with a 1 point 2 Megapixel camera. I used this camera mostly for action sports photos but occasionally for landscapes. Pixelation is what comes with a 1 Point 2 Megapixel camera.

Nice lanscape Bob. Ahhh ...to be there now.
Doesn't quite mesh with what, was it Baba Ram Das who professed, "Be here now". Or does it? Chew on that one.
Love the clouds and sense of openess seen here. I was wondering about the pixel effect on one of your previous posts thinking you were just having fun with your computer.
Now I see you were having fun with your 2 meg camera. :-)
TFS and your interesting note.
Richard

The green of this is quite remarkable, Bob. This is certainly not typical of the Canadian fall, where the colours rapidly turn to golds and reds.
Superb composition, excellent clear details

Interesting story and interesting work. I really want to be there and take pictures of mountains and forrest.

A lovely matching of a story and a picture.

Spectacular view. We can see different layers of land and trees that take on different colors because of the distance. A special country. I don't know where any of these pixels are you're speaking of. I'm not seeing them. Well done.

TFS!
Reid

Hi Bob,

Another great landscape. I particularly like the cloud formation, which works well against the the earth and creates a great overall composition. You have a great eye for composition, which seems to come naturally. The picture's another reminder that the technology is only a small part of what we do and achieve - the best we have comes from inside us.

Kind regards,

Mike

Hi Bob. Once again a beautiful landscape from you, a very nice compostion with rich colours. great detail in the clouds. such a good picture with a small camera. very well done TFs. I enjoy the notes to read each evening.

Nick..

Hello Bob,
you captured this mountains exactly as I would have done: you know what I mean. Your shot gives a deeper meaning to the word "wild". Great landscape.
Ciao,
Violetta

I love this landscape. There's a sense of the surreal, that this could be an oasis where one could be one with nature and God. I love the openess of it, the composition, and the blending of colors.

The cumulious (sp?) clouds add a new height of drama, and overall, this shot makes me want to take a visit here.

I love the composition.

salut Bob

belles tonalités de couleur, les arbres (bois) de l'avant-plan,
ensuite viens la montagne et ses bois pour terminer
avec le ciel nuageux, superbe photographie de paysages

Your side of the mountain -- apparently any side of this mountain -- appears an enchanting place, Bob. Classically well balanced composition with clouds and mountain and the foreground tree-studded slopes. Especially fine work with a 1.2 MP digital -- about what I started out with on the digital side as well. Intriguing and insightful note, and a frame that fits in gently.

Hi Bob,

A nice image of the forest and of the Okanogan Highlands under a beautiful sky, the photo has a good composition, DOF and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.
