The Dark Grass Blue (Zizeera karsandra) is a small butterfly found in Asia that belongs to the Lycaenids or Blues family.

A very small blue with a wingspan of 15-20 mm. The males are a uniform dark blue above and narrowly marked by black bands on the outer margins of both wings. The upper sides of the female are brown though some specimens have some blue at the base of both wings. The wings are somewhat transparent and allow markings of the lower side to show through when viewed from above.

In both sexes, the underside ground colour is a light brown, with some variation in wet and dry season forms. There are numerous small black markings on both wings - the ones on the forewings are always larger and often darker as well. A spot is always present in the cell on the underside of the forewing. The median band of spots on the hind wing are uniformly arranged in an arc.

A common butterfly found year round to at least up to 5000 feet. It is not as common as the Lesser Grass Blue or the Tiny Grass Blue. Its habitat is short grass with small leguminous and acathaceous plants.

It flies fast among the short grass that it inhabits and is seldom seen more than a couple of feet above ground. It is a very active butterfly and flies about a great deal in good weather. It obtains nourishment from the flowers of small herbs in its habitat. It is gregarious and is often seen in the company of the Lesser Grass Blue.

Nice pic, fantastic coloures. But I would turn it 90%, so the butterfly is not upside down. TFS

Hi Sumon,
Excellent, excellent colors. So vivid and bright. Outstanding against the green BG. Great detail, composition and POV. Very well done.

The H2 is a great little camera for close ups like this. I t give excellent well saturated colours and you've achived really good sharpness. Not sure I like the POV, I keep turning my head to put the butterfly in a more upright position. But that's just my opinion.

Hi Sumon,
perfect focus and exceptionally vivid colour. The pattern of the butterflys markings against the strong tones of the background are very striking. Unusual POV, but i like it, it's different.

Hi Sumon,
well composed with a good pov and unusual pose.
Lovely colours and fine lighting.
The details are good and the DOF as well.
Well done.

Beautiful image Mana.
The simplicity of the composition with the angled flower and bright colors, sharp subject focus and isolating DOF work wonders.
Well done again.

Hello Sumon,
Technically this shot has all the qualities to meet a high standard. The underside of the Dark Grass Blue is shown with superb clarity, colours and lighting. However, if the original would have allowed it, I would have composed this one with the butterfly upright, with it just to the right of centre, but that's a matTer of taste, I suppose.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

The purple flower combines into a perfect colour composition with the butterfly, Sumon.
It pleases the senses.
The image is very well composed with sharp focus on the subject.
Forgive me if I am not able to respond to your work on regular basis. I have taken up a work assignment which is rather time consuming.
Thanks and best regards.

Hello Sumon,

What a very nice picture!!! Colors are wonderful and the details are great! f5.6 was an excellent choice of aperture that let you had the flower and the insect in focus! The square composition was a great choice also...

I'm just wandering if the image could be also interesting if you apply a simple rotation of 90 degree clockwise...

Ciao! and TFS!

Michel

Hello Sumon

Rob

Bonjour,
Joli contraste entre fleur et papillon.
Bonne journée.

Hello Sumon,

A very interesting diagonal composition from you showing the butterfly head downwards. The subjects stand out from the surroundings not only because of the blurred background but also because of the excellent contrast in colors. The yellow stamens add some color diversity.
I also like the details! They are very well exposed and sharply rendered. The patterns in the wings resemble the closely related Common Blue (Polyommatus icarus). Your picture looks very good in the black frame! Thank you!

With Friendly Regards,
Eddie

BRILLIANT!!! Such rich colors!! Wonderful composition and excellent sharpness. The colors...I just have to rave about the richness. The purple and green really create a wonderful stage for your butterfly.

A crisp, sharp image -- and the brown butterfly (well and usefully described in your note) makes a pleasing contrast to those vibrant purple petals. I like the diagonal angle of your composition, the way the subject dominates the frame, and your control of depth of field to keep the focus where it should be. Well done.

This is an original composition Sumon, very interesting and different. I like those bright and contrasted tones of colors a lot and beautiful details on your lovely subject! I wish we have those beauties here :) Thanks!
