CJ's Desert Dwellers: Allen's Hummingbird Selasphorus sasin

Length:168 mm (3.75 in)
Wingspan: 106 mm (4.25 in)
Weight: 3 g (0.11 oz)
Family: Trochilidae

Allen's Hummingbird Selasphorus sasin
is often confused with Rufous Hummingbird (we have both, here)Common in chaparral and low riparian woods.

Through comparing the outer tail feathers (in photos), this one is determined to be an Allen's due to the narrower outer tail feathers, in comparison to photos of all the birds present at the time.

Visiting ornithologists ahve detrermined that there are over 100 individuals frequenting our place, daily. (Numbers based on max consumption per bird per day divided into volume of nectar used)

Note the 'white trailings' in the lower area of the photo. The birds tend to defecate (which he is doing…) right before entering 'the fray' as this one did immediately after the shot was taken.

Slight Crop

I really love it. The details are sharp and the motion is great!
Colors are awesome too.

I was going to point out the 'white trailing' but see you already did in your notes. Wonderful notes, by the way!
