This is a Bighorn Mountain Sheep (Ovis Canadensis). Other names are California Bighorn Sheep and Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep. Their range is the alpine meadows and foothills in the Rockies (Rocky Mountains) in the Western part of Canada and the USA. Their fantastic horns are prized by hunters as trophies but fortunately that's a dying breed - the hunters, I mean! This guy has a ratty looking coat because this shot was ijn June and he's moulting - losing his thick, warm winter coat so as to keep cool in the summer. He was having a pee at the top of this ledge and I was lucky to catch him motionless in this commanding pose.
Don't confuse the mountain sheep with mountain goats. They also inhabit the Rockies, but are usually higher up the mountains, are shy, and are white with pointed and straight, smaller horns.
There's a bit of Photoshop touching up here: Levels, hues, dodge and burn, sharpening.

Hello John,
Great capture of a Mountain Sheep ram beautifully composed in its natural environment. Superb pose and POV to give us a fine view of the mountainous BG and despite that both the sheep and the mountains are sharp, the sheep stands out well in this lighting and composition.
Well done and TFS!
Ivan

Very appropriate title: such a majestic pose.
Not using too big a telelens comes up with a nice view of the mountain. Moulting usually make them a little ugly but not that one.
