The Dark Blue Tiger, Tirumala septentrionis dravidarum, is a Danaid butterfly found in South and Southeast Asia.It is a common butterfly in the hills of South India, found upto 2700 m. It is active throughout the year, but is common at low elevations during wet weather, frequently appearing in vast swarms.
In the adult butterfly the upper side is black with pale blue markings. Similar to the Blue Tiger. T.limniace exoticus but with narrower and darker markings. HW with a characteristic wish-bone marking in the cell, formed by 2 white streaks joined at the base. It is a large butterfly with a wingspan of 70-85 mm. The sexes are similar and are indistinguishable in flight.
Similar species are Blue Tiger, Glassy Tiger, Blue Glassy Tiger, Female Dark Wanderer and Common Mime.
This photo was taken when I saw the Dark Blue Tiger came to sip the nectar of cosmos flower.I liked it because it was sitting with open wings and also with the opposite light it's wings looked as if they are painted.

Hello Smitha,
beautiful light and colours - the orange colour of the flower 'staining' the bright parts of the butterfly wings. Furthermore, sharpness is excellent. Perfect background.
Best wishes, Peter

Wow, you really captured the reflected flash light from the flower through the thin wings!!!

Smitha, Brilliant picture. Indeed the yellow flower is painting the butterfly from below. The butterfly is fresh and very lovely. Good catch.

Hello Smitha,
This seems very familiar as I used to paint on silk and I painted the Blue Tiger in the same pose on this species of flower after seeing it in Singapore some years ago. - Your capture is excellent, very sharp and I like the transparent look of the wings. Lovely colours and well composed although perhaps a bit tight at the top.
Many thanks and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Smitha,
A beautiful capture of this Dark Blue Tiger. Excellent composition and fine details with a very good and difficult POV (for me). The yellow color of the flower is piercing the delicate wings. Nice work.
Thanks a lot for sharing.

Smith, Super super and super. Lovely position and great clarity. Excellent sharpness. Ganesh

Hello Smitha,
Nice light and colors, good exposure, DOF, and details..The OOF BG works well in your composition, as does the centered placement of the B-fly. If possible, less space below, but this is subjective here.
Well done.
