A noble beast for sure--what's he doing in New Zealand? Also, please be careful. More people are injured and killed by these creatures than any other wild mammal in North America! He can throw you 10 m into the air! As for the photo, it is lovely! You exposed for the bison, so your sky is a bit washed, but the light on the animal is just perfect. If you can afford to get a graduated neutral density filter, you can have the best of both worlds. Still, I don't mind the sky at all, and this is a terrific image.

Great shot Jennifer!
I didn't know that you have Bisons in NZ. Are they free or in some kind of Zoo or Park?
We have in Poland wild Bisons. They live mostly in the forests and are distant cousins of those from North America.
The photo is very beautiful. The BG is great and the main subject looks really good.
I like it very much.
Well done!

The last place I would expected the buffalo to roam is Maori country but again the world is not what it used to. Pretty backdrop for the massive bison, something similar is Catalina Island in California where they brought 40 buffalos to shoot a movie and thats where they remained and flourished , now they are too many and every once in a while for the sake of preserving a balance in the ecosystem they shoot a few. All that les than 30 miles miles from Los Angeles, believe it or not ...

You've taken an excellent animal shot of the bison and an excellent landscape shot of the lake and mountains. The details of the first and DOV of the latter are very good as are the contrasts and colours. Good work.

This is a great shot. Lovely sharp subject and a great landscape backdrop. Postcard material. I think you were brave to get this close with the 18-55mm kit lens. Don't think I would have. :) Very well done.

Wonderful shot Jennifer! Great details, well exposed and composed. Good colors and good DOF. This brings back sweet memories; half year ago I also visited Deer Park Heights. The LOTR sites were very nice imho and instantly recognisable! :) TFS!

TFS.
Wow this close to a Bison with a 18 - 55 mm - your nerves are better than mine. The composition and exposure here needs special mention, as it is excellent.
Very well done and thanks for posting

Fantstic picture !
The colros are outstanding and the object is well placed in the frame!
I like the BG and the POV in this picture!
The clouds add a lot to the picture and the Bison looks very cute, too bad that his face are dark and that is very hard to get good in a picture....
WellDone!

Hi Jennifer,
Well you learn something new every day. I have been to Queenstown quite afew times but never knew that bison where located there. This is an unusalshot for me as a NZ'er with the gradndure of the familiar mountains offset by an unusaul visitor i.e the bison.Technically very goopd image with exception plcement of the bison within the environment it is now located.
Cheers
Paul
