[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Some days ago I saw a big dragonfly flying zigzag in an incredible speed in my garden and I was lucky - it rested on the wall of my house for nearly half an hour.

Here I show you a portrait of it. It's an "Aeshna cyanea" in German "Blaugrüne Mosaik-Jungfer". It's the biggest European dragonfly - my visitor had a span of nearly 11 centimetres.
These Big Dragonflies (Anisoptera) are a suborder of dragonflies ("Odonata") with about 2800 species in 10 families. One of these families are the "Aeshnidae". Here in Central Europe live 13 species of them - and one of them is "Aeshna cyanea".

These insects characteristically have large rounded heads covered mostly by well-developed, faceted eyes (please look here) with up to 30000 single eyes, legs that facilitate catching prey (nearly all other insects) in flight, two pairs of long, transparent wings that move independently, and elongated abdomens. Dragonfly eyes occupy much of the animal's head, touching (or nearly touching) each other across the face. You can see this very well in my picture.

In the workshop you can see another photo of my visitor.

Hi Frank...your right ....he is a BIG ONE>>>>fabulous detail of the hairs on head and leg bristles....

Hi Frank,

Frank, it is a lovely close-up capture of this green dragonfly. When I looked at the thumbnail, I thought it was perched on the snow!
Good camera work.
TFS and keep shooting good pictures!

Hello Frank,
Super details in this good looking fellow!
I like the point of view giving a good angle on the insect, pin sharp details and fine natural colours!

Hallo Frank!
I'm glad to meet you here on TN! This photo is the best presentation of a dragonfly "face", that I've seen - so close and so well colored and detailed!

I've lately somewhat neglected this site for the lack of "material". We have had very bad weather - rain and snow for more than a month. So my visits have become quite rare, but this morning I'm happily surprised to find you hereabouts.

Thanks for visiting my Schwarzdornen - I'm expecting the liqueur recipe;-)

Best wishes and good entertainment here on TN!
Anton
