Inspired by some of the wonderful fungi collages I have seen posted on Trek Nature, I decided to make up this little collage showing some of New Zealands more colourful fungi.
Three of these shots were taken within metres of each other at the Omotumotu reserve just outside Greymouth.
The other was taken in a beech forest in the Nelson lakes region.
In the top left hand photo are two pouch fungi that I found growing very near each other.
The blue/grey one is the Spindle Pouch or Blue Pouch,Weraroa virescens, and next to it,the Scarlet Pouch,Weraroa erythrocephala.
On the right at the top is the beautiful Entoloma hochstetterii, and below it a Purple Pouch from the Nelson Lakes. At the time I photographed this one I was given the name Thaxterogaster porypheum, but I believe this is now classified as a Cortinarius.
In the bottom left hand segment is the distinctive green waxgill,Hygrogybe viridis.

I tried several different arrangements of these four photos and eventually opted for this composition,as it was the one tha looked best without having to add any frame. I personally prefer not to put frames in my nature collages because I don't like to spoil the natural look with too many straight lines.

Hope you like this little collection of some of our more colourful fungi.

Hi Steve,
Nice collage and a good presentation. Each of the fungi are beautiful. I liked the colors and the details. TFS
Best wishes,

Hi Steve,

Like I said, except to the one in the lower right corner that resembles the european Laccaria amethystina (somehow...) the rest are completely different from what I see here around. The green one is amazing, looking from this angle more like a leaf than a mushroom.

Cheers, Petru

Namastay Steve,
Some beautiful and colorful fungi collages. Lovely details in every capture. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Wow! Bright blue fungi!
Excellent collage of all these unusual and colourful fungi.
Perfect lighting in each shot that brings out each colour well.
Very sharp.
Excellent presentation :)
Well done Steve,

Hmmm, very nice Steve.
I think I really want to see that blue Entoloma for myself. What's the best time to find them? I think I'll have to come over next year and see if I can find one. the green waxgill is prety cool too.
Excellent collage.

Very nice and colourful montage. Congrats and tfs. Best regards, László

Hi Steve,

I thought that I had put some beautiful mushroom photograph on TN, but this is wonderful. What a collage and what a colours. All well focused with excellent details. I don't recognize any of them. The red one top left could be a russula in Europe. And just what Petrudamsa said: The green one is amazing, looking from this angle more like a leaf than a mushroom. Beautiful. Thanks. Regards and TFS BOB
