Found this elusive little Blue-banded bee clinging to a branch in the shade this forenoon in my garden. Clinging using what? Its legs were free.... but with its 'claws' from its head [not legs]- partly seen in this picture. I have seen it do this before, while they 'wipe' and 'massage' their hindlegs clinging on to usually a dry branch - now I know it needs a rough surface. It was there almost still - perhaps they need a rest now and then in between nectar/pollen searching errands which they do so very restlessly, beating their wings millions of times. It was unperturbed by my camera taking macro shots from about 5cm. close - as if almost sleeping! It was there for more than two minutes - which I found unusual for this active creature - by which time I took some shots. A little bit of sharpening was done using Neat Image and a bit of cropping. This is by far, perhaps the best shot of my favourite bee. For once I saw its wings at rest!

Hello Dinu,
fantastic macro of that bee showing structural details very sharp. Nice colours, too. The background reflections are a bit disturbing.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Dinu,
Amazing close up on this Blue-banded bee. Every single little hair is perfectly sharp. And I like the sparkling surrounding. Makes the whole very magical

Hi Dinu,
I'm glad that you like flies and bees, they are much more seldom represented on TN but so interesting. You caught this spectacular bee in subdued light to excellent advantage. Well done, Dinu.
My best regards
