The Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a fruit-bearing small tree. The pomegranate is native to the region from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran to the Himalayas in northern India and has been cultivated and naturalized over the whole Mediterranean region since ancient times. The pomegranate plays a significant role in Judaism, it is one of the seven species of fruit written about in the old testament.
