Euh ... *flushing* cormorant!

Sorry for the confusion ... to comfort you, I did some research about the cormorant in Luxembourg ;-)

It seems that up to the 80's the cormorant was more or less regularly seen in Luxembourg. Since the mid 80's the cormorant stays regularly during the winter monthes in Remerschen.

During the last years there has been quite a dispute around the cormorant between the sports fishery association and nature and birdlife protection.

Hi Mike,
this is not a bad looking shot of a Cormorant.Cormorants are diving birds and not waders and they are excellent fishers.Your photo shows the bird drying itself by the way the wings are spread as they do not have water repellent oil like most waterfowl do.You have good colour and detail even though it looks soft in the focus because of the distance from it.A nice shot and one most welcome to TN.Tfs. Bob

Bobair is right. This is not a heron, but a cormorant. Nevertheless, it's a nice shot. Welcome to TN.

...as there was the start of the carnival season in cologne yesterday it may be a heron dressed up as a cormorant.*g*
anyway, terrific shot with the wonderful drying-the-wings-pose, excellent sharpness on the bird, a great blurred bg and some cool
distorted reflections on the water. 1/100 and 400mm? jeez, that lens is awesome. well done & best wishes, thor.
