I took this picture a couple of weeks ago in my garden, when checking out the macro capabilities of the Canon 28-135 IS.

With the arrival of the "cold" season here -temperature drops from 24 centigrades average to 18 centigrades :-) - the Christmas tree blooms in these gorgeous red flowers, and immediately some insects are attracted to it.

Since I have no idea about the ID, I asked for help and the fellow TN members Joey, Argus and Undoredo suggested it must be a young nymph stage of a true bug (Hemiptera).
So if anyone else can provide the exact ID I’ll be so gratefully.

Taken with tripod + IS, crop, exposure adjustment, resized and sharpen for TN.

ISO: 200
Focal length: 135 mm
Color space: Adobe RGB
RAW open in Adobe camera raw, adjusted and transferred to CS3 for final adjustments.

Hemiptera
Hemiptera is an order of insects, comprising around 80,000 species of cicadas, aphids, planthoppers, shield bugs, and others, collectively known as the true bugs. They range in size from 1 mm to over 10 cm, and share a common arrangement of sucking mouthparts.

The defining feature of hemipterans is their possession of mouthparts where the mandibles and maxillae have evolved into a proboscis, sheathed within a modified labium to form a "beak" or "rostrum" which is capable of piercing tissues (usually plant tissues) and sucking out the liquids — typically sap.

Life cycle
Hemipterans are hemimetabolous, meaning that they do not undergo metamorphosis between a larval phase and an adult phase. Instead, their young are called nymphs, and resemble the adults to a large degree, the final transformation involving little more than the development of functional wings (if they are present at all) and functioning sexual organs, with no intervening pupal stage as in holometabolous insects. Hemiptera is the largest insect order that is hemimetabolous; the orders with more species all have a pupal stage (Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera and Hymenoptera).

Scientific classification:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Hemiptera

This is some kind of Assassin Bug... can't be more specific than that though!
A beautiful image that is full of colours.
+++ Great sharpness and detail. Superb clarity aswell.
Great composition and a good POV.
I like the DOF because it isolates the bug from its BG really well.
--- Nothing ;)
Well done Jose Miguel!
Cheers,
Joe

Like a suit of armor, this 'critters' pattern is amazing. Such awesome detail, gorgeous color, and perfect lighting. Well done!

Hello José Miguel,
Fine macro of the nymph stage of a true bug (Hemiptera) nicely composed on a Pointsettia leaf. Good sharpness and detail. I'm afraid I can't be more specific in the ID. As Joe suggested, it could be the nymph of an Assasin bug, But I'm not sure.
Well done and TFS!
Best wishes, Ivan

Hi Jose.
I congratulate you on new piece of glass. Both you have done great job. I like this macro. It is composed so perfectly as your previous non macro pictures. Amazing scene, great DOF. Levels of blurriness of the various objects are wonderful. Lights and colours are rich and very pleasant. The bug is amazing and reproduced excellently. Use and get pleasure from you nice equipment. We join you. Bravo. Excellent done.

Wow..Ivan Id'ed it quite quickly . He is very good yes? It is a good shot. I appreciate much the lengthy notes of explanation. If I have ever seen this I think I should remember, but it is new to me as is most on that latitude. Very well done Jose.

Hi Jose Miguel

I envy you so much for being able to use your new and great equipment these days. I'm stuck with work, cold and wet weather here :((
Nevermind that...This is a splendid macro and i see your already very accustomed to your new toys.
The details you managed to get on this little insect are terrific and the DOF that you used was excellent to get the entire bug and its long and impressive antennae in great focus. Well done!
The expsure is also spot-on and brings out the best of all the colors.
I can't help noticing you are using your tripod despite the fast shutter speed...i do too, as often as i can. I've noticed that even if you have a very fast shutter speed, it can happen that you get a blurry shot, a fact that was extreemly rare with my compact. So whenever i can, i will always shoot from a tripod :)

Cheers and TFS
Horia

Hello Jose,
You brought here very colourful young nymph. ( I agree with Ivan (Argus) and I'm also not sure the exact ID of this little fella. )
This is very excellent close-up shot, with superb details and very nice composition.
Also, lovely vivid colors here and well presented with nice focusing.
Beautiful and wonderful!
TFS and best wishes,

Hello José,
Superb capture of this beautifully patterned bug on the Euphorbia pulcherrima, a pot plant you'll see in every window in Sweden at Christmas time. I've seen them in full size as shrubs on Tenerife. The interesting bug is very sharply in focus and I like its pose at the edge of the petal. A lovely composition.
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla

Hola Jose,
the picture is well composed so that by the diagonal positioning optimal magnification of the bug is possible. This becomes also possible by the great depth of field, exact focusing and pretty good sharpness, altogether reulting in a high resolution allowing this magnification.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Jose,
Nice palette of colors and a well composed image.
Great POV, DOF, details, and exposure.
Well done & have a great weekend!

Dear José,
perfectly composed, full of motion, filled with light and tropical splendour. Exposure expertly handled in those hard contrasts between light and shadow. Powerfully contrasting colours that appear marvellously smooth here.
Our "cool" season has taken Vienna into its grip yesterday - with plenty of snow arriving overnight. Plains, hills, gardens, forests - everything deeply covered in white. Looks pretty, but it feels good to look into your colours.
Thank you! My best regards,
Peter

Buenos Dias Jose Miguel,
Saludos,
Rolf
