This one is for Elize because she recommended Avifauna in Alphen aan den Rijn. It's a wonderful birdspark with loads and loads of different birds. Most enclosures are very nice and not small. They even have some birds roaming freely. I had a wonderful day and all thanks to Elize, hence the title. I know Beethoven's composition is called "Für Elise" but I couldn't withstand the opportunity and swapped the s for the z. :) Thanks again Elize.
Scarlet Ibis (Eudocimus ruber):

Physical description: Body length 22 to 24 inches (56 to 61 centimeters) Color is bright red in both sexes, with a long neck, long curved probing bill, black tipped feathers, and perching feet that are only slightly webbed.

The Scarlet Ibis is one of the most striking sights in the world of birds, flying, feeding and nesting in large groups. Some birds, especially those in the tropics, stay in the same general area throughout life. The Scarlet Ibis is classified with other birds of tropical America who have few or no close relatives except in other tropical regions.

pecial anatomical, physiological or behavioral adaptations: The uniformly bright-red plumage of the Scarlet Ibis intensifies as the bird grows older. As with flamingos, the brilliant red color of the bird comes from pigments in the bodies of crustaceans on which it feeds. The long curved beak is used to probe for food in mud and shallow water, guided mostly by touch. It flies strongly with its neck extended, almost as if it were gliding. Like other birds, Scarlet Ibis fights with their beak, legs, and wings against enemies in order to protect themselves and their offspring.

The bird uses its long beak in a process called preening to clean and smooth its feathers.
The males perform courtship displays (attention-getting movements or songs) to attract a mate.
No South American birds migrate to North America.
Ibises nest in large breeding colonies. Both parents cooperate in building the nest -- a loose pile of sticks -- and in caring for the young birds.
The female ibis lays two or three dull green eggs streaked with brown. After 23 days of incubation, the young hatchling is able to leave the nest.
The young are first featherless, and then a dark brownish color, which slowly changes to the red of their parents as they age.

Hit me, hit me hard!! I want to learn and your fierce criticism is the only way I am able to see what stupid things I have done wrong this time. Thank you very much for your constructive and unsalted criticism.

This photo was taken through a fence with tiny little holes. Shooting through the fence worked pretty well in this case.

Pieter, Not much stupid here! ;-)) Excellent details, sharpness and colors..Great visual impact. The FG RT corner grass is so OFF that it does not distract IMO. Very well done!

Nice picture, good sharpnes and composition.. Well done!

He's almost playing hide and seek. Pity the branch cuts off a bit of his tum. But you got the perfect sharpness and superb colours. Like how his beak's open. Well done.
Green smily later.

Pieter, this is great, and Fur Elise is one of my masterpieces. I like how you've captured him half way out from the greenery. Details and colours perfect. Well shown!

WOW Pieter, what wonderful colours captured with that light, and the DOF is nice too. The branches on the way, give a "hiding" point this time. Thanks for sharing.

Gosh this is gorgeous! I love the expression on this Ibis. Everything is just right here except one nit and the only reason I mention it is because you specifically asked for it...this needed either a slight head turn of the bird or a soft fill flash to create a catch light in it's eye. The catchlight is important in a bird or any animal ( human too ) eyes because it gives life to it...it makes us believe it is living and breathing in front of us. Your Ibis is lacking a catch light. Other than that I can't find anything wrong.

Hoi Pieter,

Schitterende ibis zeg. De rood-groen combinatie is prachtig. Goed dat je de ibis iets schuil laat gaan achter een plant. Het komt de compositie beslist ten goede.

hello:) beauty imagine:) how red is this animal:) exellent POV and DOF:) I love it much:D

Hello Pieter, I prefer this one with the open eye !! Vivid colors and good composition.Very well done. TFS Didier;

A very very great picture.
If we look very carefully to the picture, we can see the grass blurness.
But the really attracting and appealing issue is the bird and the red sharp color.
It's just a great Picture.
i've known from my own experience that if you want something booming it's either you make a great shot or a very awful one.
I guess that you have merged both of them which resulted a magnificent Photo!
Great job!

Good picture Pieter!
The red color came out very good something that is very hard to do with a digital camera.
Excellent sharpness and the details are great, the FG is a bit disturbing the eye.
Stunning pos os the bird!

Hi Pieter,
WOW! This is one great bird photograph! Composition is flawless, colours amazing! Excellent DOF giving very good details and texture in the feather coat... Very well done!
