Fulica atra Linnaeus, 1758 – Sakarmeke [TR], Eurasian Coot or Coot [EN] is the most common waterfowl in Turkiye. They form usually a large colonies of several thousands or more in water surface both inland water and sea.
Its lenght is about 35-40 cm. Adult is dark colored except for white facial shield and yellow-greenish legs. It can be recognized easily by this colors.
It has partial webbing on its long strong toes. It can walk on swamp with these lobbed feet.

F. atra is a member of the family Rallidae, resptesented by eight species in Turkiye.

** Gallinula chloropus – Sutavuğu, Saztavuğu (Moorhen)
** Porphyrio porphyrio – Sazhorozu (Purple Gallinule)
** Fulica atra – Sakarmeke (Coot)

The post was taken in Hafik Gölü (Lake) near Hafik District of Sivas Province. I posted previously photo of Netta rufina - Macar Ördeği [TR], Red-Crested Pochard [EN] from same lake. As I noted in this post, The photo was taken in Hafik Lake, one of the KeyBiodiversty Areas [KBA] of Turkiye. The local people protect it very well.

We have them here as well, not sure about the difference between our species because they are not common here and I don't see them often. I have a few pictures of them but not really well. I like the expression you captured in this nice POV and composition with good control on exposure. Thanks,

What a funny looking pose.
Probably just sounding the alarm.
Tricky shot with that stark contrast on the head,but details are good with catchlight in the eye too.

The colours are deep and rich in this shot,the eye detail and colour is wonderful.
The lovely lighting is also producing excellent reflections in the water,I like the rippled effect too.

I like these common birds, they're easy enough to get near and its fun to watch their behaviour. I don't suppose this one liked being photographed!! Beautiful blue water and a fine composition.
