[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Upto now, I uploaded four scorpion photographs.
** Hottentotta saulcyi from Irak
** Androctonus crassicauda from Syria
** Mesobuthus eupeus from Irak and Iran.
They are in different view from new one which was taken under UV light. Most of scorpions can reflect UV light since fleurenscent capability of their skins.
My new species is Mesobuthus gibbosus (Brullé, 1832) which ranges in Central Anatolia, western Turkiye and Turkish Mediterranean regions. There are several record European part of Turkiye (Trakya, Thrace). Out of our country, this species occurs in the Balkans, especially in Greece.
It is a member of the family Buthidae. It can be dangerous when it bites humans.
In captivity, it can live without feeding anything more than one year.
I received some message about this shot in today. I think that I must explain much. I can say that this not normal colors of scorpions. They can be visible in night without light by UV and their color similar to lemon's yellow color. Scorpion's skin has a special feature and absorb UV light. So, you cant any thing in dark, scorpions can be visible by UV. For comporison, you should look at other scorpion photos by links I gave above.
Photograph was taken using UV light, without flash.

Hello Ahmet!

Very interesting image! I saw few scorpions in UV on some kind of documentary from BBC, but never on TN. Very strange, but attractive cyan colour of animal. Fascinating note - one year without feeding? Long time :-)

Very good picture Ahmet, it is not easy to photograph fluorescing animals under UV light I appreciate the use of this special technique, but a little astonished to learn that scorpions sometimes "bite" humans, I thought they used to "sting" us!

What a cool shot Ahmet!
It's amazing how scorpions glow under UV light!!
Perfectly composed and a good POV.
DOF could be a little deeper to capture the tail-end in focus but otherwise this shot is unblemished :)
Well done and TFS,
Joe

Ahmet,
I've seen these in real life; their "STING" is agonisingly PAINFUL. I know from "personal" experiance. Just North of Bombay, now Mombai, I worked as a youth doing volunteer work building a road to connect two villages.... I was stung there. No doctors. Far from everything.
Great images, via links too.
Loved your notes.
Mario.

Bayram

Super cool capture Ahmet, the natural effect was caught very well digitally using a UV light. Apparently I'm having trouble with the image I posted as somebody reported mine as a violation of TN's policy on uploads. Anyway Fantastic scorpion image. :)
