Time to present my 700th picture :-) Over three years on TN, many happy hours and lots of friend I could meet on this fantastic site. As always big thank you for creators of Trek Nature - Adam and Robert, and of course to all my friends around world!

This picture is tribute to TN and to my favourite flower - Echinacea. Most of my best butterflies' pictures was taken in Lodz Botanic Garden around these flowers. Thank you Echinacea :-)

Echinacea commonly called the Purple coneflowers, is a genus of nine species of herbaceous plants in the Family Asteraceae. All are strictly native to eastern and central North America. The plants have large showy heads of composite flowers, blooming from early to late summer. Some species are used in herbal medicines.

The genus name is from the Greek echino, meaning "spiny", due to the spiny central disk. They are herbaceous, drought-tolerant perennial plants growing to 1 or 2 m in height. The leaves are lanceolate to elliptic, 10–20 cm long and 1.5–10 cm broad. Like all Asteraceae, the flowers are a composite inflorescence, with purple (rarely yellow or white) florets arranged in a prominent, somewhat cone-shaped head; "cone-shaped" because the petals of the outer ray florets tend to point downward (are reflexed) once the flower head opens, thus forming a cone.

Active substances:

The full spectrum of echinacea's chemical components responsible for its health effects are not well understood. Like most crude drugs from plant or animal origin, the constituent base is complex and some parts may be directly antimicrobial while others work at stimulating or modulating different parts of the immune system. All species have chemical compounds called phenols, which are common to many other plants. Both the phenol compounds Cichoric and caftaric are present in E. purpurea, other phenols include echinacoside, which is found in greater levels within E. angustifolia and E. pallida roots than in other species. When making herbal remedies, these phenols can serve as markers to evaluate the quantity of echinacea in the product. Other chemical constituents that may be important in echinacea health effects include alkylamides and polysaccharides.

Hello Grzegorz,
at this point - your 700th picture, thank you for your numerous excellent contributions to TN.
The nice collage shows us that obviously Nymphalidae dominate Echinacea and have a close relationship to this plant. Each of the nine pictures is perfect for itself, the attractivity is potentially increased by the well composed collage.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Grzegorz,
700 pictures! Wow! Congratulations!
Excellent way of celebrating the occasion by posting a photographic tribute to a flower that many of us have had the joy to see how it attracts so many butterflies! Your collage makes a fine presentation of those butterflies that are attracted to it in the late summer in N. Europe.
Well done: look forward to seeing you celebrate your 1000th!
Thanks for all those 700 that you have posted so far,
Best wishes, Ivan

Cioa Grzegorz,
congratulazioni per la tua 700th foto e complimenti per questo collage.
Uno spettacolo di colori smaglianti che si ammira con vero piacere.

Congratulations...and an especially nice tribute to the creators of TN and your friends as well. Echinacea is the first herbal which I tried 225 or so years ago and have been trying all sorts from that point on. I appreciate the plant. Not only is it good in health but it is a fine perch for many creatures......Again...congratulations.

hello Grzegorz
this flower should be nicknamed" attracts butterflies" why the merit of this splendid collage is also to him!!!!
thanks for sharing

Hi Greg and millions of congratulations for this fantastic event!
700 photos...wow!!! Your portfolio here is worth more that a country's in some cases :))

But what i actually like the most is that even if you are one of the back-bone members of this site, you are still part of it's community (unlike others). You still take a lot of time in spending here - writing critiques, posting photos, contributing to the forum etc. And that's really cool! ;)

As for this lovely collage, what i can tell you from the start is that it inspired me to plant some of these splendid flowers and insect magnets in my garden :)
All your shots are amazing - very clear and with an amazing set of colors. The tones of the butterflies contrast so well with the ones of the flower creating such a pleasing image for the eye. Simply Beautiful!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Greggorgzz,
Congrats on making it to your 700th post.
I really hope old Echinacea sees this too.
This is a wonderful tribute to the old chap and I'm sure he'll be thrilled that you thought of him ;)
Those lovely purpur flowers are nice too.

Congratulations on #700. I always enjoy your composite posts. The variety is quite special. I like the arrangement with the six shots with pink to the outside. It feels balanced. Echinacea is certainly a butterfly magnet.

Nice work. Thanks for sharing it.
