[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Bob, its not a snowy Lake Erie but its a morning sunrise I thought you might like. We've got no snow here yet on this side of the Lake. The Lake Effect snow machine falls on the east and south side of Lake Erie. Ah you might say, what is Lake Effect snow?

When the wind blows and a storm front comes over the lake it picks up the moisture from the big lake, in the winter it drops the moisture in the form of snow. Now since in the winter most of the wind comes from the north or north west then the snow falls to the south or east of us. And belive me sometimes it drops ALOT!! One storm that fell in Buffalo New York a few years back before I lived here dropped 8 feet of the white stuff! The city was shut down for a week. Amazing.

But the day I took this sunrise there was no snow but a bit of ice is indeed forming on the shallow parts of the Lake and rivers.

Hope you enjoy the photo, I have indeed been away since my Husband was home for holidays , he is now again back on his ship til the first of the year.

Isn't it fascinating. I see those cumulus clouds building up. And yes..one must be anywhere from just E of Cleveland to let's say Buffalo to get the full effect of lake snows...I lived on the west side of Cleveland in the Metropolitan Park. We were saved usually with exception of one winter in 1952 when I was only 7 years old...bu tall the other heavy snows from the lake fell in the "snow belt" east of town where my wife lived before we met..and married.
This is a good scene from your view...although you are not saved from the clippers or the Siberian fronts...you do luck out a bit with the snows...It is a wonderful image Donna...and it could not have come at a better time. I had a dream about my youth in the parks of Ohio last night...unusal...and coincidence? I think not....Thank you so very much! You have a good heart! I can hear it beating all the way out west!

Hello Donna,
Great winter sky with superb colours and cloud formation and the tree silhouet really sets it off with a touch of drama created by the low mist clouds over the lake.
