I have to admit that the variety of waterfowl on the pond at the edge of town sometimes astonished me. I saw (but never go close enough to) a fabulous Great Blue Heron, a variety of ducks, some bloody-minded swans, a few different ducks, Canada geese and this one which must be a hybrid, something produced through the union with a barnyard goose.

Now, of course, they've all long since gone south. And I cannot help but wonder whether this one has ended up in somebody's oven by now.

Funny thing is that I do not know many people who do eat goose for Christmas or any other time of year. I have cooked it only three times in my life and each time I got better at it. The trick is to rub the bird with lots of lemon and then keep pouring off the fat over and over again. There is a lot of fat with a domestic goose! But it does taste wonderful!

Tech: shot in RAW, converted without cropping, reduced, sharpened and framed

Thanks for looking and have a very Merry Christmas

To my sweet TN friends: I shall try to post as often as I can during the holidays and I promise to schedule myself some time to post more often in the New Year.

Hello Silke,
This is a fine shot of a barnyard (park) goose in a great composition with its reflection in the water and with superb sharpness and DOF.
Yes a goose is delicious once you get rid of the fat, though here in Sweden we have a goose festival on st Martin' day at the beginning of Nov. The Swedish Christmas meat is eaten on Christmas Eve and consists of marinated herring and ham, as well as Swedish meatballs, though now turkey is becoming more popular.
I wish you a peaceful and happy Christmas, as well as a Happy New Year.

Hello Silke,

This is a beautiful posting! The goose resembles a Spanish galleon in full sail!
Superb use of light and wonderful reflections!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Silke!
Nah it's Turkey for me!
However it's been quite some time since I last tried Goose, I may really like it now! I will make it my priority to try Goose again either this Christmas or sometime in the new year :)
A wonderful image.
The reflection is exquisite!
Very sharp and detailed.
Great clarity as well.
Well done!
Merry Christmas to you and your family and I hope you have a happy New Year :)

Best wishes,

Hello Silke,
A great POV and composition, I like it.
Nice reflection of this domesticated Swan Goose as well.. Excellent exposure, DOF, and details..I might've plucked the stray feathers out of the water, but that's just my excessive compulsive behavior showing again ;}
Merry Christmas!

Hi Silke,
This is a beautiful composition and POV of this nice bird. You managed exposure so well with superb tones of contrasted colors and lovely reflection. Well done! TFS,

Lovely reflection - very nicely framed and composed. A lovely shot!

Hello Silke

A very good shot of this Christmas goose.I saw one very similar to this hanging out with a flock of Canada geese in the wild this year.I saw it on many occasions and took photos of it.
I remember having a goose at Christmas at home once, and I remember it being fatty, that had to be over 30 years ago.lol.Mother cooked a traditional turkey as well so if the gang wasn't thrilled with the goose no one would be too upset.I have four brothers and four sisters ,it was a big Christmas at our house every year.
I like the way you composed the shot ,and the lovely reflection upon the water.
Very good focus and sharpness, the lighting is well done.

Hi Silke,

The goose in the water is impressive, its reflection in the water is an asset to the photo. The point of view is precise and showing a lot of details of the feathers. Thanks for sharing, Merrys Christmas.

Hello Silke !
I hope this one didn't end up in an oven, because he is so beautiful ! :-) He looks almost as gracious as a swan. Details and composition are wonderful, as well as the colors, the POV and the reflection on the water. maybe a smaller black frame wouldhave been better, but this is just my own little opinion, the picture is excellent as it is. Very well done !

Hello Silke,
This fellow is very well exposed with fine details in the shining white plumage!
A fine composition, and the distorted reflection adds interest...
And I wish a HAPPY NEW YEAR will come your way!
Seasonal greetings from Norway,
Pablo -
