Pluteus leoninus

Thanks Marco [Sarcodon] for the ident, as always he has nail it.

This attractive and distinctive mushroom can occasionally be found growing on dead wood in Europe and North Africa. The underside of the cap is typical of the genus Pluteus - the gills are pale, soon becoming pink when the spores ripen. But the upper surface is a bright tawny or olivaceous yellow. The species name leoninus (meaning leonine) refers to this cap colour.

The golden to olive-yellow convex cap is 3-7cm in diameter, is hygrophanous, and usually has a grooved edge. The darker central disc has a slight velvety tomentum.
The gills are yellowish at first, then salmon pink (the colour of the spore powder).
The stipe is up to about 7cm, often striate, being white to cream, and often darker near the base.
The mushroom grows on stumps and wood debris of broad-leaved trees and sometimes of conifers.
At the microscopic level, the filamentous cap cuticle is a trichoderm. The gills have scanty bladder-shaped pleurocystidia, and abundant fusiform cheilocystidia. The spores are smooth, almost globular, approx. 7×6μ.

I found this info HERE.

The photo is taken with the typical DIY ring flash, made from some carboard, aluminium paper, and a translucent plastic cover as diffuser. I use my external powerful Metz flash, through a hole with adjustable size.

It has NO postprocessing at all, except crop, resize and USM.

Hope you like!

Hi Filipe and Cristina

It's so nice to hear from you again my friends...especially in this time of the year!
I'm staying home right now, arranging the ornaments on my tree and listening to traditional Christmas carols and from time to time dropping in to see what my TN friends are doing...and i'm so happy to see you!

A very nice fungi macro shot from you with another great use of your imagination in getting the perfect flash and light for your subjects!
I really like the direction the flashlight is coming from and also the well adjusted intensity.
Very good sharpness and DOF overall!

How is your new house coming? Are you celebrating Christmas there already?
Anyway, i really want to wish you a sincere and loving Christmas and only the best in the year to come! But first of all, may you be healthy because if you have that, you can pursue your own goals and see them to a good end :)

TFS and Happy Holidays

Hola queridos amigos!

Hi Felipe

That funghi is lovely, it seems to glow in the dark. Wonderful use of the flash. Is that a little insect on the stalk? Great POV and wonderfully sharp

Hi Mateo and Cristina,

Quickly, Pluteus leoninus (Schaeffer 1774) Kummer 1871.

Happy new year.

Hola Felipe.

Que bonita sombrilla con un amarillo muy llamativo.

Jose Luis.

Hola Felipe

A beautiful capture of this delicate yellow fungi. The SOny has done very well again.
Excellent sharpness, superb POV and DOF.

Excellent lighting in this one Felipe.
The color, DOF, and sharp detail (even an ultra tiny spider visible on the stalk) are all there too..Effectively composed, and a perfect POV.
Just out of curiosity, how many different species of fungi have your indentified so far??
Very well done mf,

Hi Felipe and Cristina!
Long time when I visited your gallery last time...
A very beautiful picture with truely fantastic light! Flash control is more than professional, and details and DOF are great too (I can see even a small insect - aphid? - on the mushroom).
Note as always very interesting and informative.
All the best from Lodz!

Hola Felipe y Cristina,
El que no para de sorprenderse con las fotos de hongos (buenos, setas) soy yo, siempre impresionantes, diferentes y bellísimas. Adoro la luz amarilla que tiene. Buenísima!...

Just perfect again Felipe,
You can see every detail so clearly!
The exposure is perfect and the DOF is very good.
You can even see the tiny creature on the stem clearly.
A fantastic shot.
Great work!

Felipe, this is absolutely great. Color tones, sharpness, details - simply perfect. But this is the quality we used to get from You, maestro. Bravo. Tfs the pic and the useful note.

Otherwise, I read this is a frequent specie in Hungary, but I myself never met it, unfortunately.

Not long ago You mentioned You also have red-green glasses so You can fully enjoy anaglyphe images. So, please click here and here. I think I have more of them on TrekLens.

Regards, László
