Here another butterfly from the north Italian Alps.
The species shown is
- Argynnis aglaja
- family: Nymphalidae

- synonyme: Argynnis charlotta
German: Großer Perlmutterfalter
English: Dark Green Fritillary

Distribution: A. aglaja is found all over Europe except the mediterranean islands but including Sicily. Furthermore, the species occurs in Morocco.
Foodplant of the caterpillars: Viola species, such as hirta, tricolor and palustris.
Foerwing length: 24 - 29mm.

Location: North Italian Alps, on the way from the Gampen-Pass to the Großer Laugen (2494m).

Hi Peter.
Once more great close-up picture with tremendous DOF, details and sharpness. Texture of the butterfly and leaf, their colours and illumination are the best as well as the diagonal composition of the picture. Excellent job. Hello Peter,
The Alpine area you visited last summer seems great for butterflies! This is a splendid capture of the Dark Green Fritillary from a fine POV. All parts nicely in focus and details ar very sharp. The colour is beautiful too and the composition excellent.
