Well I have finaly found time to post one for myself and I know it`s another from the mesh tunnel shade house this one is deffinatley a Common Wasp (Vespa vulgaris)I`ve posted this one because i thought it was a clear image than the last one.
I have spent a little time watching them hunt now and i tell what they hunt as carefully as any lion or tiger picking the one they want leaving other to almost walk over them, then they see what they want do a short take-off and land across the victims back and bit through behind the head (seen here) they then crop the wings off and fly off with the remains between her legs.
Small change to camera equipment the addittion of a +3 and +4 close up lens, I knw it doesnt have the same effect on the sony as it does on other peoples camera but does make some improvement.

Rob, This is another nice macro. They are my favourite. The mesh gives it a futuristic look (other than faded BG on most macros)and the wasp looks like an alien of some sort on this landscape. I like it. White is slightly hot at centre, but it doesn't bother me though. All and all very well done. Nice note too. Thanx for sharing.

WOW. I had a look at both your posts and read both your notes. I had no idea...well, i sort of knew that wasp did not only feed on nectar but still, haden't really pictured them as hunters. Your right, it may not be a technically perfect picture but for sure one of the more intresting once, especially with your notes. I hope you find that equipment you need so you can give us a closer look.

Ouch, I'm glad it's not my neck it's biting ;-)
It seems you also found your "victim" and waited for it to pounce. Even at 1/1000 and F-8 the capture is a bit bright, but the action makes up for that. Any idea why it's got its tail end near the fly, too, is it stinging it as well to make sure?

Perfectly sharp and clear, Robert, splendid details!

What an amazing macro, Robert.great DOF. I like the perspective od the squares on the mesh. Together with the dof it adds depth to the battle field.
