[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Queen Danaus gilippus which related to the Monarch (D. plexippus )and the Soldier (D. eresimus), but has less defined wing veins on the upperside. Underside hindwing lacks band of pale spots present in the Soldier.

They have a wingspan of 7-10cm and a distribution stretching from central western USA through central America to Argentina. They are found in pastureland, disturbed forest, gardens and weedy areas. The larvae feed on members from milkweed family.

Hello Chris,
Excellent capture of this American Danaiid, the Queen. The pose, wing position, POV, lighting, colours and sharpness are all first rate and it is well composed against the OOF leaves.
Thanks for sharing,

Hello Chris,
excellent shot of this beautiful Danaus.
I like the composition.

Hi Chris,
Very good colours and POV. Good focus. Subject reminds me of my time in Belize in late '80s - so long ago now. TFS

Hi Chris

As far as I can recall I've never before seen this spotted "Queen" so thanks for showing it. Those white dots are so much accentuated by the dark orange wings and the chocolaty brown edges. A lovely capture doing justice to the beauty of this butterfly.

The composition is fine, the colours are remarkable, the large DOF was spot on to capture all the features in exquisite sharp details, and the exposure was well controlled.

Good work and TFS.

Hello chris

Wow,the colour is beautiful,and rich.
Just marking the post for now

Hi Chris,
Perfect. So rich in colors, and the tone (white balance setting) is simply masterful. Great bg also as well.
I like butterfly photos very much now. Not that I wasn't interested in them before, but now, when I also have some on my HDD which I'm satisfied with, I'd like to do more and more. :) Of course such great ones as this. Magic pic.
Tfs, greetings from Hungary, László
