Anagallis foemina.
Synonym: Anagallis arvensis ssp. foemina, Anagallis caerulea.
Common names: Blue Pimpernel, Poorman's Weatherglass.
Common Hindi name: Jonkh-mari.
Plant: 12-50cm. Annual herb.
Flower: 8mm across.
Distributed in Europe, Asia and North America.
Common name Poorman's Weatherglass has its origin in the fact that the flowers close when atmospheric pressure decreases and bad weather is approaching.
Used as fish poison and for expelling leeches from the nostrils of cattle. An ingredient in an ecofriendly pesticide. Poisonous to dogs.
It was at one time highly regarded as a medicinal herb, especially in the treatment of epilepsy and mental problems, but there is little evidence to support its efficacy and it is no longer recommended for internal use because it contains toxic saponins and cytotoxic cucurbitacins. The whole herb is antitussive, cholagogue, diaphoretic, diuretic, expectorant, nervine, purgative, stimulant and vulnerary. It can be taken internally or applied externally as a poultice. An infusion is used in the treatment of dropsy, skin infections and disorders of the liver and gall bladder. Use with caution, large doses can cause polyuria and tremor. A homeopathic remedy is made from the plant. It is used internally to treat itchy skins and externally to remove warts.

Hello Nirmal,
Beautiful colors, DOF ans sharpness. This herb is quite common in Jerusalem and I new nothing about it's medical characters. In waterlogged soils, there is a splendid orange version of this species. I will try to find an old pfoto of this version, for posting.
Best regards,
Yedidia

Interesante toma de esta planta que desconozco, aunque por el aspecto se asemeja a una verónica muy común aquí. Buen enfoque y una gran profundidad.

Hi Nirmal,
Very beautiful blue flowers and I like the colour contrast here of the blue/green/yellow/red. Godd management of the sunny lighting and perfectly exposed. I like your top POV and would love to see a closer shot of the flower sometime. Nice composition. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Nirmal
I love the colour of this Anagallis. It's such a pretty blue. I grow a cultivated variety in my garden as they are not native around here...to cold. Wonderful colour, detail and composition. Good note too.
