For about 3 hours the snow stopped and the sun came out. It didn't last long...but long enough for me to get out and take some pictures...and then it started snowing again. Day three of the snowstorm...going into day four. Here we see heavy snows on firs and Lodgepole Pines. The first snows were heavy and lay thick on the branches, then a power snow came and dusted, then another wet snow and then it all froze...some trees lost their lives to the storm but that is nature in the raw. It is the way it is.

We will always remember the cold and the blowing. Cars get stuck and are abandoned in the streets. News is full of images of problems and sanding trucks, heavy blades cutting down to the pavement so people can hurry up again. Got to go to work. Got to get back home so they can go to bed and do it again. Very few stop and look...so I made sure to record all of the beauty and leave th rest to TV and newspapers....This is what it is all about...Sun shining on freshly fallen snow in pines..right here in the middle of the city.

Hi Bob,

An indeed wintery scene, you captured it well, the thisch layers of snow hanging on the trees are clearly visible, nice that there are still some blue spots visible in the sky, thanks for this upload, but all hope that spring is tuning in fast again,

Hallo Bob
Now I can see what they mean with the words of the song "Winter Wonderland". This is a scene one normally sees on the Christmas cards. I real fairy tale picture. I can feel the cold, but see the beauty. I have never had the opportunity to witness a scene with this much snow. Snow does some amazing things and I heard that it is great to photograph because of the light reflecting back from below. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed looking at this one.
Kind regards
Ps. I hope your legs feel better. Both Loot and I also have that aching problem with swollen legs and the discomfort with it. "Vasbyt"

hello bob,
this one is simply beautful, this is a common scene for you there but a rare one here, i have never seen snow like this, you have managed exposure well , the blue sky with clouds look beautiful, well composed shot,
tfs & regards

Hello Bob,
Very beautiful winter scene. When I look at this photo I desire to go skiing in the Alps, but I have to wait for a couple of weeks (holiday). Fantastic clear colours in a beautiful panorama.

Hello Bob,
What a wonderful landscape that I've not experience here for some years now! I like your composition very much with the various trees laden with snow and the pattern of blue/grey above. Lovely colours! It looks so beautiful, peaceful and quiet.
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

This looks really cold,
I have snow here but nothing like you,
Great capture,

Hello Bob,
The fine exposure of the whites, the blue of the sky, the composition of the conifers bent under the weight of the heavy snowfall, all make this image of the heart of winter look positive, as it is a fine image. Our winter is so far snowless in the very south of Sweden but if we get snow there are positive aspects...

Hello Bob,
Are you satisfied about your Leica?
About your work..
A lot of trouble as mentioned in your note and still so beautiful...
The first Christmas 2008 image;-)
Beautiful image!
Well done

Hi Bob,

This is just beautiful. The white of the snow, the blue in the sky and the green in the trees are just wonderful. I have always found snow covered trees to be a lovely sight and they truly are in this shot. By the way, how long are these snowstorms forecasted to last???

Hi Bob,
It seems beauty always can be found, even at the worst situations.
You took good advantage of the brief weather window, to bring us this splendid snowscape.
I think you had to point up the camera to avoid the large amount of snow accumulated on the ground, but the resulting extra wide composition its great, with all that pines against the blue sky.
My compliments and thanks for share it.
Warm regards,

Hello Bob,

Great landscape! Beautiful light. Superb composition. With the sun, it is the type of snowy landscape that I like.

Hello Bob,
Beautiful winter scenery well captured especially with the sunlight and blue sky!
very good sharpness, vivid colour and details!
a very pleasing presentation from you!
many thanks for sharing

Pretty shot of the winter wonderland you are living in Bob. Wouldn't know it was in the city besides your note. At first I even thought you took a drive out of town. The puffy cloud blue sky adds the finishing touch to this. TFS

Hola Sr. bob.
Gran claridad en esta bella foto. muy hermosos colores y exelente presentacion.
We dont have snow here very often, only one each 3 or 4 years. when it happens, it is like a big even, No school, no work, and everybody get out to play in the streets for only one day.
Your friend Luis52.

This looks very much like Bulgaria. I loved the crisp air after it had snowed.
This is a really great shot!
You've exposed it perfectly resulting in an evenly lit image with no OE or UE areas.
Great composition and depth.
Well done Bob!

Hi again Bob, wonderful winter view, great composition with splendid trees full of snow, good colors, superb sky, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Bob,

What I like within this pic is the light!!! We can feel the cold just by looking at this picture which is, by the way, very well composed and presented within this format...

Hi Bob,
Beaucoup de neige dans votre région. J'aime beaucoup ce paysage, les arbres sont chargé de neige avec un beau ciel bleu. Ça donne le gout de sortir les raquettes.
Belle composition et belles couleurs.

Hello Bob,
I see that the storm slammed your area, as is common in Eastern Washington. An incredibly well balanced and detailed capture of the snow laden trees and ground. The contrast between the snow and blue of the sky is breathtaking, as is or was your own to stand and capture this special scene. your Leica is a great camera, very crisp images,
Well captured and presented, and note as well...

Mr Bob

Looks unworldy, am currently trying to sort out my forthcoming stag weekend somewhere cold as I hate the heat. Maybe I could bring Mr Glen Snr and PaulH to see you...
Keep the top shots coming, am enjoying the adventures and stories my friend.

Wonderful snow image. Lighting, conditions and framing all contribute to that. Kudos to you!

Hi Bob,

This is a well put together picture. Perfect exposure and vibrant, but natural, colours. The composition and low pov give us just the right amount of sky. Very cold picture giving a very warm feeling.

Hi Bob,

Superb winter scenery with all this heavy snow on the trees. I really like the point of view, and the way that you've cropped it makes this image a beautiful diaporama. Amazing light which gives a little magic touch in this well composed image.

hello Bob

what a lovely shot and superb composition,
winter days like your image, i love it very much,
there is an excellent luminosity on your image,
a winter day luminosity, i love the clouded background

Hi Bob,
Magnifique, quelle belle composiiton, le ciel et le paysage sont superbes.

Hello Bob,
This could well be in my neighbourhood, but not today with a windy weather and temps above 0C!
Nothing much looks better that snow covered evergreens in sunshine...
Well exposed and well composed, and I notice the typical seasonal sky!

Hi Bob

It is indeed a beautiful shot. I know people have to work etc., but really some of the conditions we see here in Ox of you guys trying to get places....me, I'd just stay in bed and read a book (or look at TN).

Well composed and good sharpness.

Hi Bob
Tout simplement superbe! C'est vraiment la bonne saison pour faire de belles photos avec le soleil qui ne monte pas trop haut. Belles couleurs
Bravo et merci

I like the crop here - its different. Nice original touch!
Great light and each branch is defined by the snow. Cool...in more ways than one.

Hi Bob,

A nice scenery of the evergreen covered with snow under a beautiful sky, they are receiving a good luminosity. The photo is precise and clear. The subject is well framed. have a nice day.

Hi Bob.
The pictured scene, shot of the subject and skill of a photographer are outstanding in every respect. Framing, strong horizontal cropping and composition of the image are the best as well as great exposure, impressive combination of lights and shadow, crisp sharpness of all objects, Bravo. My heart congratulations.

Hi Bob

I have been reading the forum posts and you really have had some weather. In contrast we actually had an end to the rain with blue skies and warm sun.

This is a really beautiful scene. I love the snow heavy trees contrasted against a blue but still wintery sky. Lovely exposure and beautiful composition

Hello Bob

I really like the POV on this shot,it gives the appearance of being on a summit almost.
The lighting is wonderful with a brilliant blue sky and puffy white clouds.
You have captured the splendour of fresh snow and how it transforms a landscape into a Winter paradise.

Hi Bob
Beautiful picture of winter landscape. I miss this kind of winters here in Poland (this year there is almost no snow here and just a little in the mountains).
Good composition and exposition. I can feel winter atmosphere.
Thanks for sharing

Hey Bob,

I like so much winter in my country when there is snow (like we have this year) and I'm always glad to see such beautiful snowy landscapes. I'm proud and considering myself lucky to live in this paradoxal but so inspiring and changing part of this country! Thanks for sharing with great skill its beauty!
PS What the equivalent of the word "paradoxal"(adjective of paradox) could be in English?

Hello Bob,
just like a painting. It just simply beautifully captured in dramatic view. The sky with blue tint and the white snow gives asplendid feeling upon looking it. The light that creeps on to the trees are very effective in giving a special effect.
Well seen of this snowy moment.
