"...forever young, I want to be forever young..." - do you remember this song by Alphaville??? I belive at least some of you do... :)

So now please look at this picture. What do you see? A mantis? You are right! A larva of mantis? Absolutely not!!! :)
You can say: why it is not a larva, this specimen does not have full developed wings - just like all larvae in this insect order! Really it does not have ANY wings!!!

Ok, but if you remember my last mantis photo of Ameles decolor you also know that in some Mantodea species adults have reduced wings. And this species also has reduced wings - but this time in 100%!!! :)

So we have here a really "old one" who discovered how "to be forever young" (or at least how to look like that... ;>).

The hero of this image is Geomantis larvoides Pantel, 1896 (Mantidae) - the only one wingless species of Mantodea known from Europe.

And here are some basic data about this unique species:

Size: up to 25 mm

Distribution: S Europe, from France and Italy to Greece.

Habitat: dry areas with low vegetation

This picure was taken in Butrinti village, in the old olive-grove.

Hi Radek

Another excellent presentation from you and this time of a very interesting and unique (at least for Europe) species.
I honestly can't wait for the new season to begin...i really need to get some new macro photos :)
This is again a very nice shot, with excellent detail on the entire length of this animal, with lovely natural colors and a great DOF.
As usual, i always love your notes, too :)
I do feel that this image is just a little too dark and so i created a workshop to bring more light on the subject...i hope that's ok with you, my friend.
Anyway, wonderful work!

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hello Radomir,
You too posted a mantis!
In my country are only registered 4 species (Ameles decolor, A. spallanzania, Empusa fasciata and, of course, Mantis religiosa). Till now I only saw M.religiosa and E.fasciata, hope to see the other too soon!
The capture is great with very nice details!
Regards
Ena

An interesting specimen in perfect focus and composition Radomir, TFS my friend.
Yours,
Mehmet

Hi Radomir.
Once more perfect reproduction of the fine mantis. We have only green and sandy coloured species. I like impressive substrate and its texture reproduction. DOF is great. I love this technique. I think the shot is not underexposure. At least I like level of exposure. Very impressive look.
Alexei.
P.S. Unfortunately I have not inspiration to write ferry photo story. I have overestimated my "talent".
