This wonderful looking dragon lives in the gravel plains and inter-dune flats.
They are herbivorous and spend most of the time underground in burrows.
The numbers are declining in UAE mainly because of the habitat destruction.
Surprisingly for their size (up to 70cm long), it is quite difficult to spot unless they are running.
They are well camouflaged and blend into the surroundings really well.
By the way, they are called 'Dhub or Dhab' in local arabic name.
One of the locals told me that his grandfather used to catch them to eat.
Also they were believed to be an aphrodisiac.......

Halo Yukiko!
Great shot! Superb details, interesting scene and superb colours.
Good job!

Lizard, howling at the moon.

An interesting looking lizard, Yukiko.
I can see how he might blend well with the BG, especially when standing still and from a distance.
Well captured, good detail, lighting and POV.
Thank you.

Une bonne photo très original et agréable à regarder.

Félicitations !

Stunning shot, Yukiko, due to the amazing pose of this dragon. Very well catched and perfect focus. Image looks a bit overcontrasted, but it's probably due to the scanning of your photo.

Wow, impressive looking lizard, I've not seen this species before. Very interesting setting, great composition and colours. Can't believe the tail. Well done and TFS, this is areally interesting species.

This is a very beautiful pose, it is strange to see this reptiles standing up so high on the legs and looking up, it gives a strange feeling to the shot. I havent seen one of this in my life, although I lived in Abu Dhabi for 2 years. Regards, Felipe.

Belle et intéressante composition macro bien réalisée pour cet étonnant "dragon" à la pose originale. Jolies couleurs chaleureuses et bonne netteté.
Very intersting & well done ! Congratulations !

Impressive capture and critter. Lovely compo. The POSe is exceptional. Very interesting post. Great work.

Wow, what a great pose you captured. He seems to be posing just for you. We do have some lizards about 10 miles East of my home but they are difficult to photograph. They are always running to hide under rocks and trees.

An interesting lizard and a good POV. your thick lower border balances the darker area nicely.

Hi Yukiko,
Great shot, excellent low POV. I think what really makes it great though is the shallow DOF and the framing/composition, allowing the background to disappear into a blurry haze. Great work.

Hi Yukiko, splendid lizard, it seems a monster of an other era, splendid light and warm colors, very well done, ciao Silvio
